BOSTON (AP) — A dozen Tufts University men’s lacrosse players have been diagnosed with a rare muscle injury after participating in a voluntary, supervised 45-minute workout that the team conducted, a university spokesperson said Friday.
Five of the players who have been diagnosed with rhabdomyolysis remained hospitalized Friday, according to Patrick Collins director of media relations for the school.
The workout on Monday was led by a graduate of the university who had completed Navy SEAL training.
Rhabdomyolysis is a rare muscle injury where a person’s muscles break down, according to the Cleveland Clinic. It’s a life-threatening condition that can happen after an injury or excessive exercise without rest.

Been waiting on this one. Going to be some typical responses.

Now put some college wrestlers through the same workout. I bet the results would be different.

all these coaches that do these types of workouts are so damn stupid
training like that does not make you mentally tougher and sure as hell doesnt help performance
just like when people use to celebrate when moffit would have the football team running twenty 110's as a conditioning test like it was going to make the team better or faster.
insane with all the information out there we still have coaches with OCD that just feel they have to outwork everyone all at the sacrifice of health, speed, strength etc.

Certainly, guys that roll around with other guys wearing leotards will be able to withstand this workout.

This is why I don’t work out.

Kids are starting to realize that sports are stupid. Stories like this will keep more people out of the game.

There is some outfit out there doing these "Navy SEALs" training camps for men that have "lost their way" and charging $18k to humiliate dudes and give them rhabdo. I believe a couple have died. And the guy running it was never a SEAL.

Yeah, right. Rhabdomyolysis sounds like a term or diagnosis that's only been around for a few years. Never heard of it...
