The 11-YEAR-OLD BOY who was stopped by police, FINGERPRINTED, and ordered to court for riding his dirt bike to go FISHING 300 FEET FROM HIS OWN HOUSE...
...has just pleaded NOT GUILTY in court
The 6th-grader MISSED SCHOOL because the State of Florida is prosecuting him for a misdemeanor.
His name is Cade Kirchner, he's 11.
He built and sold squirrel tables all summer and saved $900 and bought a little electric dirt bike with his own money.
On Labor Day he grabbed his fishing pole and rode toward the pond at Sweetwater Park.
Police pulled him over, fingerprinted, ticketed, and then TOWED HIS DIRT BIKE AWAY.
The day before court, Cade said: "I'm feeling very scared. I'd rather be in school instead of being at court."
His dad called the State Attorney's Office on Monday hoping they'd drop it.
Their answer: they're pursuing charges.
So Tuesday morning at 9 a.m., Cade missed class and walked into Seminole County Court with his mom, his dad, and a lawyer.
He stood there for less than two minutes.
The judge told him to come back December 2nd.
His dad's words after: "How ridiculous that he had to miss school for that."
New bodycam video came out this week. The officer, on camera, told an 11-year-old:
"You're getting one ticket today. You could have gotten six criminal violations, but I'm giving you one."
Six criminal violations, for a kid with a fishing pole.
Did Cade technically break the law? Sure. The bike has no pedals and the state of Florida law calls it a motorcycle and even Cade's own parents have said he shouldn't have been on the road.
The argument is that we have VIOLENT CRIMINALS who are being released every single day by the court system all the time who are constantly let off with warnings...
But this kid is getting the full weight of the justice system brought against him.
Now prosecutors are spending taxpayer money to keep the case going into DECEMBER.
Cade's lawyer says he expects it to be resolved soon.
It should have been resolved on the side of the road with the words "go home, kid."
This is so stupid... we are destroying childhood freedom for kids and no one seems to care.
This is not the America I want for my kids.
The comments are not kind to this lady cop

I’m sorry they couldn’t have done a slap on the wrist for this?? They literally let murderers and violent people who assault people go free on bail! A woman was driving drunk and ran a red light and knowingly hit and murdered someone and only got 30 days in jail!!!!!!

Female cop on a power trip. I 100% bet she would never show up at a ‘teen’ takeover

Terrify an 11 year old about policing for the rest of his life. Let a violent man go who goes on to stab a family in PA. Nice job Florida.

I’d expect this in the Stasi Govt of the UK !! But this is FL - @GovRonDeSantis you HAVE to get involved and PARDON this little fisherman

I think I saw this on the news yesterday. Pretty sure they said he was going 50 mph. Seems like they left that out of the story. Maybe this saved his life.

Did your aunt forward this to you?

Why do I feel like there is more to this story?

I had a police officer pick up my 9 year old, put him in the back of a police car, bring him back to my house, and tell my wife she was getting arrested if we let him wander off again. His crime? We let him walk a half mile from our house to cut down bamboo for a fort he was building.
Don't back the blue.

Good! Hopefully it starts to curb this issue with all these kids, terrorizing neighborhoods and shopping centers on these bikes. If you’re one of these parents be better.

Maybe not this kid, but the electric dirt bikes are out of control in Florida. Kids going to hospital all the time, swerving at cars at 10pm.
These are not e-bikes and a lot of them can go 40-50mph often times ridden by a 13 year old with no helmet.

I would want to go 50 on an e bike but I wouldn't want my kid doing it. I just saw Nola has some sort of rebates or monetary incentive for people to buy e-bikes. We will see what happens.

I read the story. Under the state's law, to be a 'bike' that a kid can ride, it had to have under a 750W motor. In fact it had like a 4500W motor, i.e., six times as powerful. Kids have no business riding something like that on public streets. They are a menace to themselves and others. The real failure here is that the cop did not arrest the dad for letting him ride it on the street.

I don't get the problem

The kid isn't being detained pending his December 2 court date

“Son, what is your parents names and number?”
“Yes hi this is the police, can you bring your son fishing in a legal manner”
“You can go fishing and go back home today but next time make sure your parents bring you”
That’s all that needed to happen, if that.

It seems like one of these can’t be true.
These e bikes are a big deal and a nuisance, but this story, as written, is absurd. Put the kid in the back of the cop car and bring him home. And then his parents should whoop his arse.
But actually pursuing charges and going through the actual court system is fricking ridiculous.

From the video this is what the kid was riding
I don't even think that qualifies as an "e-bike"

Exactly. Or call parents have them meet at the stop. That would have been a better punishment as parents ground him and take bike away. Also wouldn’t make cop look bad and parents would have supported cop. Now they are fighting law in court and kid will hate them for what they did.
I did much worse as kid and my parents wrath was way worse than anything else I could have gotten

So? Did he break the law?
If it’s “only” 300 feet why can’t he walk it?
Personally, I’m sick and tired of Legal dirt bikes, running around electric or not. Couple that with the assholes on motorcycle zipping and out of traffic and I’m ready to start shooting people.
I said the little turd got what he had coming

I think most of us can agree that people get let off too easy for violent crime, but these E Bikes are a problem and need to be reigned in.

I guess a hint is the kid stopped for law vs others who run from law. Tells you the kid respected law. Likely won’t in future once he gets older and realizes all the better choices cop could have made.

Women should not be cops. Hopefully the judge throws this out.
