He's white. Laws are supposed to be for those other people.

It’s really not that complicated

Nor is it that complicated to not ride an ebike in a manner or in a place where the cops are focusing on such behavior. As is apparently the case here since dad already asked for dismissal/leniency and was told "no". Its also not that hard to walk 300' to your fishing spot. Lots of lessons being taught here to the participants.

Which is why the kid should have their arse beat. Again, not that complicated. It’s not an either or situation

I agree, bad ones that will make everyone involved worse off and accomplish nothing

Give me a break. Kid wasn’t running from the law. Kid stopped when cop lit him up. Kid is 11 and has a chance to ride his dirt bike in his neighborhood he’s going to do that every time, we were all kids and life is an adventure.

He worked all summer to pay for bike, wasn’t running around stealing or involved in teen gangs. He made a mistake just like all 11 year olds do. Easily could have been handled by calling parents to stop.

They even towed his bike away. Fingerprinted him. He’s in 6th grade. Cop could have let his parents handle it with a warning. I imagine parents would have thanked the cop and made the kid apologize to her for speeding and then get home and take care of business. Thats parenting. Cop took the parenting option away. Now the parents and kid are anti cop when it could have been pro cop had she called them onsite.

By the law she was correct. Policing is not always going by the letter of law. How many here got off from a ticket and instead of being upset at fines and insurance going up instead were glad and took that as a good lesson.

It could have been handled so much better. And made that kid appreciate the law and be fearful of parents grounding and taking bike away. Thats a much better outcome.

Pretty sure they said he was going 50 mph

I heard them say "the bikes can go up to 50 mph." I did not hear them say the kid was going 50 mph.

Good. Need more of this. They don't obey laws, run stop signs, pull out in front of people. She probably saved his life.

This matters:

Did Cade technically break the law? Sure. The bike has no pedals and the state of Florida law calls it a motorcycle and even Cade's own parents have said he shouldn't have been on the road.

This does not:

I had a police officer pick up my 9 year old, put him in the back of a police car, bring him back to my house, and tell my wife she was getting arrested if we let him wander off again. His crime? We let him walk a half mile from our house to cut down bamboo for a fort he was building.

I get the feeling you are leaving out a very important part of this story…..what was your 9 year old going to use to cut bamboo. Was he walking down the street with a machete, by chance>

Why do I feel like there is more to this story?

Because there always is. People need to do their homework and not believe everything they hear/read. On the surface, it sounds like BS; however, if he is speeding, then he deserves to receive a ticket.

If I have to have mirrors and insurance, so does an 11 year old. Or just stay off the roads.

LEO wonders why they continually have an image problem with average Americans. Case in point.

Eh. If he wants to ride it in a field or off road, have it. But his parents should take it there. An 11 year old doesn’t belong on the street driving one.

Stupid feelings story..

If you break the law, you get in trouble.

"Oh just because there are murderers out there, means I can go break the law as long as I don't do anything too bad."

What a dumbass point of view... Somebody tell this idiot dad that we have different cops that do different things.

Some cops investigate murders, some give traffic tickets. I guess this dad is too stupid to know that.

You and many others missed the main point. Not one poster said he belonged on the street.

Lots of whiffs in here today.

OFFS. Give me a break.

Should have been a slap on the wrist but what a retarded victim mentality statement. "I'm scared of police because when I was 11 I got pulled over for doing 50 on my e bike!!"

You were just talking about how some things weren’t just “getting over it” and therapy was ok.

Glad you get to be the arbiter of what qualifies for that and what doesn’t
