In between jobs, lost insurance last month, I’ve been paying health insurance for 6 years with no doctor visits and now this happens. I had to get stitches.

7,000 dollars for a CT scan. I refused at the time, they told me I needed a to be scanned. And 12 stitches. 10,000 dollars...

Check if you are eligible for COBRA from your former employer. You used to be able to retroactively get it and be covered... it was like $1,200 a month but cheaper than 10k.

Got drunk and hurt your head and needed stitches and a CT?

(Even so ridiculous)

No problem, tell them you dont have insurance and to give you a cash price. It will probably be cut in half.

Give them a fake name and address at the hospital. Even if they know it's fake, they cannot refuse to give you medical care

Negotiate. They'd only collect 10% of that from you and your insurance company if you were insured.

If you don't have a job, try applying for Medicaid.

My buddy lost his job and had an ER visit for $3K. Applied for Medicaid and they paid off his ER bill.

I'm calling bullshite on this. You're either making it up, or don't know how to read a bill.

Not saying you were charged some ridiculous amount, but it wasn't 10k for the suturing.

I said $7800 for ct scan-head. 10,776 dollars total for medicine and stitches.

I told them my head felt fine and I didn’t need any scans in my head, they told me I needed a scan and did it anyway.

Just do like 90 percent of the population and don’t pay it. In some respects the contributing members of society only encourage non-free-market gouging by trying to do the right thing and pay.

But seriously get to the bottom of your COBRA coverage and your insurer will give them a couple hundred bucks and it will be all good. Yay free markets.

Wouldn’t hurt to call and explain the situation. They’ll likely offer some assistance

That's capitalism. Profits are more important than your health and life.
