I was living elsewhere in the south last time and thankfully never lost power even though it was snow or icy for five days.

I tell you what brother a generator is a solid investment. Cats were filling up their toilet tanks from the pool water and shite.
I was bringing my elderly neighbors bottled water and groceries.
It was cold

Yep. I was trying to find the small bottles for my buddy heater. Academy was all out. I was the first person in the doors at Dicks and got 8 bottles. They had probably 20 bottles and they were all gone within 5 minutes.
I also tried to fill my tanks, but I just stopped once Uhaul and Lowes/HD turned me away.

I've got an 1.5 year old and we're prepared for whatever happens Saturday night but if the power goes out we'll be headed to a hotel.
Hope you live close. Have you ever drove on a sheet of ice over the entire road?

Just got the Winter Storm Warning for here (Louisville, KY). We’re in the 10-14 inch snow range with potential for higher amounts since we’re on the other side of the freezing rain line.
Grocery shopping is done (covered for at least 10 days). Will get power blocks and things charged for Saturday. Snow blower batteries charged. Fiance’s parents have a fireplace and they live in the neighborhood behind so we can head there if we lose power.
Running prop bets on whether Metro takes out my mailbox again when they plow like they did in 2024.

For the North Mississippi Delta, this feels like the potential to approximate the 1994 ice storm. In Clarksdale and Tunica, the towns went as long as 30 days without power. The trees were never the same.

Adjustments to the south? The ice line is damn near identical in all of those frames across much of that area with the exception of some small movement in Texas.

Just filled our 250 gal bulk tank at the farm. I have the hose to fill 5 gal bottles.
Might go around and fill people’s bottles up for a hefty fee if it gets bad

Hope the roads are passable and you can find a hotel that isn’t booked
I'm in Austin, the roads are supposed to be fine Sunday AM. We'll just head south to New Braunfels or San Antonio if needed.

OK Highway Patrol/DPS
@OHPDPS
Be prepared!
We are partnering with @OKGuard to have SMART teams ready to go in Woodward, Weatherford, Ardmore, Vinita, Tulsa, Oklahoma City, and Durant. These teams stand ready to rescue stranded motorists and move vehicles off the roadway.

Hope unnecessary travel will be limited. Hate seeing others in harms way due to possible stupidity.

Not sure if this has been mentioned in the thread, but it may not be a bad idea to fill some buckets with water so you can flush toilets if you lose water pressure.

All my peeps in Little Rock are saying it’s gonna be mostly sleet (versus ice), which is correct according to forecasts. I’m going to make final call later or in morning.
My favorite beach retreat is $800 for 5 nights. Idk if I’m up for driving 10 hours to the beach alone with all 4, however.

Best thing to buy.. at the front of Kroger or Walmart .. those 5 gallon water jugs that go in offices or whatever .. I got my parents one for Christmas
Something that you don’t think about until you need it … their city had busted the main water main and people were without water for a few days and luckily my parents used the big jug to refill
The toilets to flush
Reccomend keeping a jug or two around for a rainy day
