FWIW my wife thinks we aren't getting anything significant. That means prepare for 1" of ice accumulation and no power for 7 days...........

I just wish I could get a good common sense breakdown...they have plenty of soild model drive predicted ice accumulation graphics for down south that cut off before Shreveport...all shreveport news stations are doing the same assinine...watch here for a winter storm update!!!! then I have to watch 10 minutes of some dipshit pointing to a map saying nothing of value

I'm 43. Been in 2 major ice storms in my life where we lost power for about 2 or 3 days. Had no fireplace either.. We just bundled up in a room and used a lot of candles. It was cold but we lived through it with good memories. I would only leave if the kids are very young or old family.
Power outages in winter storms with kids are where bourbon, UNO, and monopoly come in very handy

I live 10 miles west of Guthrie. I'm planning on making a trip to the Walmart there an hour or so from now. I'm good on bread and water, but need a few other things. Planning to grill steak tonight in the cold before the precipitation starts.
Made it to Walmart by 10 am. Busier than a normal Saturday morning, but not horrible. I was able to get everything I needed and get out of there quickly.
I have a 10-week-old sheepdog puppy. It will be fun watching how he reacts to close to a foot of snow.

Thats what im trying to parcel out....Im in south Shreveport and cant seem to get a clear anwer... some things say couples 10ths of an inch freezing rain some sleet some over an inch of freezing rain. I have a kid and trying to figure out if take him south which would suck for reasons or risk it here...roads impossible are one thing but extended power outage we cant do w him
The power is the real variable here. Austin is down to freezing rain between 6p Saturday and 7a Sunday. Very short window for ice to accumulate. However, if a tree limb knocks out power during that time it'll take forever to get back on. We lost power for 4 days in 2023 from a similar incident.
I've got an 1.5 year old and we're prepared for whatever happens Saturday night but if the power goes out we'll be headed to a hotel.

.
I stopped by Harbor Freight this morning not expecting to find any small portable generators, but they had both the 2000 and 2500 KW super-quiet inverters in stock.

A lot of hotels will be booking up with work crews working the storm, so depending on where you are, I'd reserve a room early just in case.

My neighbor wants to send her three kids to my house if her kids start to drive her crazy. I threatened to get my pellet rifle out to keep them away.

Hope the roads are passable and you can find a hotel that isn’t booked

shite is about to get real, y'all. Last time this happened in Texas in 2021 it was not the best of times.
Regardless we will be outside and doing snownuts in empty parking lots and enjoying the empty streets.

How bad do y’all think this will be for North Texas?
Like several days without power?

Propane is running out in Shreveport.
I stopped by U-Haul to fill my tanks and they were out. Called tractor supply, they’re out.
I prefer to fill them but I started checking gas stations and grocery stores. I called/check 6 or 7 spots. I finally got to swap my 2 tanks at a hood grocery store. They had 1 tank left…
