He drops this nugget in the article:

quote:

Former defensive ends Carl Granderson, Chase Young, Cam Jordan and Isaiah Foskey are now outside linebackers.

I would have 1000% assumed Cam would be an End.

quote:

Defensive tackles Davon Godchaux, Nathan Shepherd and Khalen Saunders are playing nose tackle and will often line up directly across from the center. Defensive ends Brian Bresee, Jonah Williams and Vernon Broughton will flank the nose tackle.

quote:

The player who could benefit the most from the scheme change is Alontae Taylor, who will man the nickel back or “star” position.

quote:

You’ll see Staley’s defense in varied alignments across the line of scrimmage. They’re likely to field four defensive linemen as often as they do three. Sometimes the edge players will be standing up. Other times, they’ll be in a traditional three-point stance. Sometimes they’ll rush the passer. Other times, they’ll drop into coverage.

Losing too much weight, likely going to be shoved all over the place. Why is Foskey even mentioned?

Micah Parsons is 20 lbs lighter than that. Von Miller played at 250. You really are a know nothing dipshit

Yea this is plain stupid if they trying to play him at olb. He doesn’t have the speed to play end in a 4-3 much less olb in a 3-4. He could probably get by as a 3-4 end just to hold the edge.

Out of college everyone thought he best translated to 3-4 End

At the end of his career, it would certainly be a better fit you would think than a standup rush spot

He was projected a 3-4DE coming out. It makes more sense to convert him to the "Cam Heyward" DE role for Pittsburgh, same age, similar size and frame. He was still productive (8 sacks last year).

I think young at this lighter weight is going to be good for his sack numbers. He had the pressures.

How does that work? Is he going to play an OLB role or will we be in a 3-3-5 with Taylor at nickel?

I can see Young and Granderson flourishing in this new scheme. I just hope our corners and DTs can hold up

This and Will Anderson plays as a down lineman in a 4-3 at 243 lbs. 265 is fine for Granderson and Young.

Great. Now Foskey can suck at two different positions

Not sure why the downvote.

Taylor is not as good on the outside. He played a lot in DA’s scheme because our base was nickel. If we go 3-4, Taylor isn’t on the field unless he moves to CB or safety. Only way he’s on the field in a “star” position is if we run a 3-3-5 or run a 3-4-4 and he plays safety. Or you could use him as a deep WLB in a more tradition 3-4.

Serious question, how does that help him?

I'm thinking he'll be playing a mix of slot/safety/olb type around the line of scrimmage to be able to use the blitzes we saw him excel at last year. Funny enough, think of how Mathieu was used at LSU and how he was able to earn the Honey Badger moniker.

I too think he was/is better suited for slot than boundary CB, but that also then leaves the boundary corners with a big question mark. Sounds like we are banking Isaac Yiadom, Kool-Aid, Rico Payton, and Quincy Riley to take a tremendous step up and earn those 2 starting spots.

If yall remember, Will Smith played his last season with us as an OLB before he got hurt and he looked wrong for that spot. Expect to see the same thing with Cam.

Except Cam already has played as a stand up OLB at times under 3 or 4 coordinators and looked fine.

He won't be standing all the time and he'll rush more than he drops, but this is to help disguise things more than change his role. He may drop more than he did in the past but it won't even be close to 50/50.

Cam at this point is a backup learning how the new coach wants the backups to play. I still would imagine more snaps at end as needed. Hopefully a new scheme gives the old dline room some new life.
