Trading the amount of capital to draft a “win now” receiver in Olave was pretty horrendous.

I can go through game by game and if he simply doesn’t drop simple passes or fumble, we probably have 3-4 more wins.

He’s a good receiver. Not great. His frame is terrible and probably limits him to being a Tyler Lockett type at his very best. But to be honest, I don’t think he ever fully reaches that peak.

He ain’t Ja’Marr, JJ, or even a Christian Watson level receiver to be honest and that’s what we needed him to be considering all the draft capital we pissed away to draft him.

For all the chodes on here blaming Ingram for the season, perhaps we should look at our higher acquisition price players such as Olave and demand more. He’s a rookie, but he’s basically the most expensive piece we have on our team. We need him to be JJ, not store brand Tyler Lockett.

I think Shaheed is a big play WR but he’s more of a solid #2. Olave is going to be a stud WR #1. He kinda reminds me of his fellow OSU alum Terry Mclaurin. I think Olave, Shaheed, and Jarvis Landry in the slot (when healthy and as the veteran leader of the position) are a solid WR core. Still would need some depth tho.

The trade for Olave really was a bit unfair to him. Absent him being a Julio Jones or Justin Jefferson type difference maker it will be a bad trade.

Olave looks good. Reminds me of Calvin Ridley. But a calvin Ridley just isn’t worth the draft capital we gave up. And that would be true if our first round pick this year was in the 20s

Shaheed is amazing. Especially considering he was free and cost us nothing to obtain him.

Where does Michael Thomas fit in, in your scenario? Are we trading him or cutting him?

I’m on the fence, but I notice you mentioned Landry, but not Thomas which I thought was interesting.

Folks get lost and do not realize how hard it is to put up a rookie season like Olave just did. I member when they said he couldn’t carry the load with Thomas out. He’s a 1200+ yard WR if he doesn’t miss 10 quarters.

Getting stronger in the off-season in priority 1

This feels a little rich to me. I think Olave is a high-end WR2 (think Tee Higgins) and Shaheed looks today like he could be a great-upside WR3.

Just curious what you base it on. Olave's play this season seems to indicate he's damn good. And lest we forget, he didn't have great qb play

Just for fun...the last time the Saints drafted a QB in each round:

1st - Archie Manning (1971)
2nd - Never
3rd - Garrett Grayson (2015)
4th - Ian Book (2021)
5th - Adrian McPherson (2005)
6th - JT O'Sullivan (2002)
7th - Tommy Stevens (2020)

We haven't taken a QB in the top 100 since Danny Woeful in 1997.

Olave put up 1k yards as a rookie with Andy Dalton throwing weak short shite to him all season and no real threat opposite him. Anyone that thinks Olave is anything but a #1 is stupid. Olave is Marvin Harrison reincarnated. If we get a QB that can actually throw him open, he will be an all pro in the next few years.

I just wouldn’t trade up like that for Terry McLaurin

I really did believe in Winston. I admit it.

I did too. I still wonder if we shoulda gave him another shot. Game 1 was probably a lot of rust, and then he got injured in that game.

To me a true WR1 has to have at least two elite traits. Olave might be an elite-upside routerunner, but he has nothing else. He's very fast, but not elite fast. He's medium sized. He's got decent hands, but not elite hands. He's not overly physical.

Look around the league at the guys we know are true WR1s. AJ Brown. Jamarr Chase. Tyreek Hill. These guys all possess at least two blue chip, elite-tier traits.

Shahid on the other hand is just more of a, I haven't seen it all yet. He's an undrafted free agent so obviously there are some limiting factors. The dude is crazy fast/shifty, but that's really all we've seen. I just am not ready to jump the gun on this yet like we did with Deonte. I think there's a better chance I'm wrong about Deonte than I am about Olave.

Saints still have Training Camp and the Pre season to evaluate Winston, so, maybe so.

What do you consider elite fast?

This coming draft will be full of high profile QBs. Stroud, Bryce Young, Will Levis, and Stanfords QB. Maybe some that I’m missing.

Every draft has high profile Qbs, if you play for a top 10 team you will be high profiel regardless. Levis and McKee aren't high profile. This draft does not have a Joe Burrow or Trevor Lawrence type "can't miss". I don't think anyone looks at the top 5 Qb of this draft and says damn I absolutely have to have that guy.

AJ Brown

Revisionist history. Nobody called him an elite wr before this year.

If we graded players off just rookie season, cooks would have been a bum, Jordan was a bust, and juwan was horrible.

He won't be a top 3 wr in the league, but I'd argue he can get into top 10 and that's more than enough

Olave is literally wide open on any intermediate to long route. He is one of the most fluid route runners I have ever seen. If he was playing for a QB like Mahomes that could get the ball out to him, he would have damn near 2000 yards.
