The first round pick that was traded for Olave..

Let me start off by saying I’m a big fan of Olave. But next years first round pick that was traded to move up for him could turn out to be a horrible trade for us.
Olave is great. But this is a QB league. We are not winning any SBs and might not even make the playoffs with Jameis Winston. If that pick turns out to be a Top 10 (maybe even Top 5) I’ll throw up.
This coming draft will be full of high profile QBs. Stroud, Bryce Young, Will Levis, and Stanfords QB. Maybe some that I’m missing.
The chances of finding a great QB in Free Agency is very small. Yes I know, Brady and Brees came from free agency but you get the point. Hopefully the Sean Payton trade nets us some serious draft capital. If not, we are screwed!

Lighten the frick up Francis...I mean what do you think we should do at this point? call Philadelphia and say we changed our minds????
fricking man up and stop being a chicken little - we 1-3 with a coach whos Defenses took a few games to get going, lotta football left so lets hope that its the same for his teams as a whole.
Stop dwelling on negative shite, you and all the other posters who have flooded this board the last few weeks with some soft arse sky is falling takes.

So I guess you think old Winston gunna pull out some Wins for us? I’ll book mark this thread and check back at the season. We’ll see if your still of the same opinion.

I get the whole Olave trade though. At the time we were riding with Winston who as of last year, looked at the very least promising. We kept referring back to his TD-INT ratio and win-loss record from 2021.
Getting Olave was a great pick and who knew Winston would look this bad, along with the offensive line so far this season?
I'm not really sure what needs to happen now, but at this point, who knows?

If Olave is going to end up being a great WR for the next 10 years it was absolutely worth it. Next year will be rough draft wise no doubt. Always have FA or following year draft. Always have a chance to move up and get lucky in 2nd round with a QB.

The sky isn't falling but it was a bad move to trade next year's pick away. Olave isn't a top 10 pick and the eagles are more than likely going to get a top 10 pick from us unless the red rocket starts lighting it up. In today's league you are only as good as your QB. If you don't agree then you haven't watched other teams in the nfl over the past 10 to 15 years.

Not to get into the weeds on this discussion but we didn't trade next year's 1st round for Olave.
We drafted Penning at 19 with next years pick and a 2nd rounder in 2024. We also received a 6th rounder which turned into Josh Jackson who is on the practice squad.
quote:
Pick No. 11: Washington --> New Orleans. Washington traded its first-round selection (11th overall) to New Orleans in exchange for the first-, third-, and fourth-round selections (16th, 98th, and 120th overall)

This is the tougher pill to swallow if we end up with pick 5-10 next year's draft.

wut
we traded next years 1 + 18 to get 16 and 19
it was pretty clear we wanted a 2nd, 1st in 2022 to move up for a WR. that was the rumor and that's what we did.

Mayfield 1.1
Trubisky 1.2
Mariota 1.2
Winston 1.1
Daniel Jones 1.6
Wentz 1.2
There is more than one way to find a QB
Ya see more talk about trading for Cooper Rush (UDFA) or Jimmy G (2nd rd) or the Eagles & Hurts (2nd rd). Everyone wanted to trade for Russ (3rd rd)
Trust the process. There will be more than one way to skin this cat

We had to upgrade receiving corps with a low cost contract. He is the guy we wanted and he wouldn’t have been there.
Next year’s pick will not be top 5. You have to be really pessimistic to think that. Playoffs are still very much in play.
And we will have a first next year. Probably first half of the round

To be fair I’m not sure how many of those guys are really going to be franchise qbs. I absolutely agree with your point that we need the pick and that it will be valuable. Just don’t think those guys are the biggest loss.

In the trade, the Saints received two 2022 first-round picks (No. 16 and No. 19) and a 2022 sixth-round pick (No. 194) while the Eagles received a 2022 first-round pick (No. 18), a 2023 first-round pick, a 2024 second-round pick, plus 2022 third-round (No. 101) and seventh-round selections (No. 237).
All of that was done for priority #1, moving up to #11 to get Olave.

I don’t know how you can look at that eagles trade and think it was horrible. We got an extra first round pick this year.
Of course we’ll regret it if we suck this year, but that wasn’t likely at the time. Still not in my opinion

Where we screwed up was not getting Jefferson like I said over and over in the draft threads that year. Could’ve gave up a 3rd or 4th and moved up a few spots to get him.
Wouldnt be in the position we in now giving up the house for Olave

Top 10? Lose this weekend and how about Top 3 and maybe even the Top pick. Until proven otherwise, this team and coaching staff all out suck and are one of the worse in the NFL.
