This. It wasn't a terrible trade on paper. A first this year is more than a first next year on the market. That our pick will be #10 vs. #19 is a loss in value in a vacuum...but I think the inherent value of this year vs. next year probably close to nets that out. You'll get differing opinions on that but it wasn't unreasonable.
But, we also added a #2 to move from 16 to draft Olave. That was the cost of getting Olave. I think, in hindsight, he was worth that steep price. But, again, we didn't pay over market to make that move, IMO.

Look at Olave's first few games where he had Winston YOLO throwing everything deep. Winston missed him badly for what would have been 3-4 wide open 50-60 yard TDs.

He will never be worth that. Especially when you look at rookie WRs taken after him, Dotson (1.16), Watson (2.34), Pickens (2.52), Pierce 2.53).

It’s not Olaves fault, they never should have thought that he was a missing piece. They were at a crossroads and didn’t realize it. But it compounds everything again this year, especially if they just continue ti push on. And if they decide to blow it up, it looks just as bad because you pour all of that capital into picking him. It’s a lose-lose and was just a terrible trade for this franchise

I melted about it at the time. It made no sense at all, and makes even less sense now.
Why go all in for a WR, give up a future 1st...when you don't have a QB?

Maybe I can phrase it better. The saints didn't TRULY believe they had a QB.
They gave him a 2 year contract.

And also refer back to the Tampa game where Winston hit Olave on what should have been a TD, but he fell and fumbled the ball, which ended the game.
