You have to feel like this is the beginning of the end for Payton as the Saints HC.

Yes, other coaches have done it.

But the NFL HC job is a GRIND. Its a tough job that requires a lot of sacrifices and a tremendous amount of hours. To be that separated from your family as well...I just don't see that working long term.

This is a real bummer. But maybe I'm just a pessimist.

That was part of Loomis having leverage with a never having been a HC before guy. He demanded him be "all in" and live here. Go to a NFCCG & win the first Lombardi in team history and the leverage reverses. He has the stroke now.

I can see that, but what about Cowher and Dungy, they both burned out.

You think they will still take my book back? Without receipt?

This bothers me, I'm sure it won't be as bad as it sounds, but I just don't like this at all.

I'm not gonna go that far. I do think it's a slap in the face to the people of New Orleans though. It's like they lived here, didn't like it, so they're moving back to Dallas. frick Dallas!

You have to believe that he will be living in N.O. once the season starts - no way he commutes to Dallas (even 90 min) when they are preparing game plans, breaking down film, etc. Still, not a good idea. If your a free agent and you have an offer from the Saints, how does this affect you and the possibility of moving to a town where the head coach moved out? How do you convince vets to show up for voluntary off-season conditioning programs?

I don't respect Sean that much anymore . He can take his Dallas dream job and shove it up his arse. If His wife hated here that much do us a favor and stay in Dallas.

He's naive if he thinks hopping 90 minute flights back and forth isnt gonna wear on him big time. Personally, i want Payton here a long long time.

But lets be real, Brees is whats keeps the Saints train moving. Payton's job is to make sure he doesnt frick things up while Brees is in his prime.

IMO, GW has the tougher job right now. He's got to put a defense with mediocre talent, in the right postion every play. There's no way our defense shouldve been ranked as high as it was last year.

With Brees at QB, it would be a joke if we werent putting points on the board

Not that's any of our business. While it's not a good thing and potentially opens doors we'd all rather stayed closed, this isn't some precalculated job switch move. If he wanted in in Dallas he'd have gotten the HC gig. It has to be personal, wife wanting out, marriage in trouble, etc. Our publicly speculating on his personal troubles will not help matters.

purely speculation on my part but speaking of GW... this whole scenario might have had some factor in him not even interviewing in Denver & TN. It's not now or even soon. But if he's set up as the heir apparent we know this is a dream scenario for him.

bad PR move especially considering how many NOLA residents feel about their city, but it doesn't bother me. If Payton refuses to sign any type of extension then I'll begin to grow concerned.

I'd prefer we keep the guy who won a Super Bowl with the fricking Saints.

more-

Payton, wife Beth and their children will live in a home the family is purchasing in the exclusive Vaquero Club, an upscale golf community in Westlake that is home to numerous PGA Tour professionals as well as the Jonas Brothers.

The Paytons will enroll their children in school in their new Texas neighborhood. Payton became interested in Vaquero when he lived in nearby Southlake while working as an assistant coach under Bill Parcells with the Cowboys.

Payton estimates that flying on a private plane is 90 minutes door to door from his office at the Saints complex to the family's new home, which he believes allows him to remain committed to the Saints while moving his family to the area where he and Beth intend to eventually retire.

When Payton was offered the Saints head-coaching position originally, the family considered this exact setup but owner Tom Benson insisted on the entire Payton family living in New Orleans.

The Paytons spend several weeks during the offseason at a beach house in the Florida panhandle.
