Elizabeth's in the Bywater is great and def off the beaten path. I've lived in NO virtually my entire life, and have never considered Stanley's to be a tourist trap. But, for Sun brunch, you'll probably have a long wait (esp since the Saints game is not until the late afternoon).
That late (post-game) will limit choices. Root is open for dinner late, and its fairly close to the arena, so it might be a good choice.

The offense had two opportunities to simply run out the clock and win the game, despite their gutwrenching, miserable performance. They ran 6 plays and took less than 1 minute off the damn clock.
Teams have learned that you no longer have to give our wrs a cushion at the los. They are flooding the box and our wrs are incapable of getting off the line. Lack of speed is a big issue with this team.
Lack of turnovers is not the issue. Yesterday the Saints ran twice as many plays on offense as did the Panthers, and had a sizable lead in time of poss. You don't fault lack of turnovers by D when your offense is on the field twice as much as the other team. This is all on the offense - oline play, lack of speed at rb/wr; and Brees has been less than spectacular on the road. And, Payton's play calling is to put it mildly, puzzling at times.

I like Maximo's, but its not in the same league as the other three. Maximo's does a great job with scallops and their chicken dish is a local favorite. Pelican Club is the only possible bad pick in the bunch; I haven't been since they had a change in the ownership/chefs, but the reviews are a little mixed on it. August is superb, but price wise, its also the leader in that grouping.
re: Saints are a lock to win a playoff game imo.

With the way the offense has sputtered, they need to focus on beating TB this Sun. I'm not all that convinced they will make the playoffs. This team may go into a shell after yesterday's game.
Sort of a rarity, but I always like the Long John Silver album by JA.

Place is legit, and that part of Arabi is starting to get the spill over effect from the Bywater. A few businesses that own property in the Bywater, have recently sold and are relocating to Old Arabi and making a hell of a windfall on the contrasting property values.

For wine in NOLA, try either Swirl in the Bayou St. John area or Faubourg Wines in the Marigny/Bywater area.
Don't really disagree with the move, but surprised since Brown did have one of his (rare) better games against CAr 2 weeks ago.
re: Does anyone honestly think we see Armstead at all Sunday?

Armstead will probably be on the active squad for the game, but he won't play unless the LT position goes even further south. Since Brown played well against Car a couple of weeks ago, my guess is he starts and is put on a very short leash.

Great album, but check out his latest, called Once It Gets Started. I think its better, overall.

They are still around. Saw them in Jan. at the HOB in New Orleans. Still sound damn good, too.
Other thing I noticed yesterday was that on one of the red zone drives in the 4th, Brees appeared to zero in on Colston in the corner of the end zone looking for a jump ball type pass. Colston made no effort to jump. Wonder if his foot is still bothering him, or if that was a sign of the overall malaise that seems to have gripped the o yesterday.
re: Why not utilize more of a 3 step drop back?
Posted by plawmac on 12/16/13 at 2:29 pm to Chad504boy
While I appreciate the sarcasm (seriously!), is that the answer - we lack any credible wr or te that can get open on a quick slant/route? My fear is that with the state of the ol (even if they bench Brown), this team is at most a one and done playoff team, unless they change something p drastically.
Why not utilize more of a 3 step drop back?
Posted by plawmac on 12/16/13 at 2:25 pm
With the pressure Brees has been under when he goes to a standard dropback, why haven't the Saints utilized a 3 step drop on occasion? I'll hang up and listen.......
My guess is they carry two fg kickers next week and drop the 3rd QB from the roster. They did it in 2011 for a few weeks. For whatever reason, Payton just can't completely drop Hartley. But, I've also never seen Payton a angry as he was yesterday.
Stat time!!!!
re: do we still control destiny for #2 seed if we lose today?

Only difference it will make, is the will win a home playoff game. They will not beat anyone, let alone a playoff team, on the road. Frankly, Car will destroy the Saints in Car.
re: Buy/Sell.. Worst start to a Saints game in the Brees/Payton era?
Posted by plawmac on 12/15/13 at 4:11 pm to SouljaBreauxTellEm
Buy - given opponent, this is far worse than Seattle. Plus, its all self inflicted wounds.
Worse performance of season thus far
Posted by plawmac on 12/15/13 at 4:05 pm
Against Seattle, you got the impression that they were trying, but just had an off game. This just looks like a team that has no interest in being here today. Sad, pathetic excuse for a team that s allegedly contending for a playoff bye. Next week's game against Car will be winner take all at this point. Sadly, its on the road.
Monty looks "Mav-vel-ous"

The ribs are very good - more boiled than grilled, but still damn tasty. While Tues is normally rib day, I've been there on some Tues and there were other specials.

I would hope that the old Brennan's (Ted's place) would occupy a permanent seat in the ain''t there no more library.
Ted Brennan to reopen Brennan's?!?
Posted by plawmac on 12/13/13 at 7:05 am
No link, but WWL TV just reported that Ted Brennan won a victory at the state court of appeals, and has announced that he and his daughter will reopen Brennans. Apparently, none of the appellate court judges ever ate there........
re: Best place to buy "good" balsamic vinegar?

Blue Ridge Olive Oil Co will do your heart and soul good. I love to cook - the variety and depth of their olive oils and balsamic vinegars are unreal and the prices are reasonable. They will ship.

try St James Cheese Co or Stein's.
This team will only realize its potential if the get rid of Monty. He is clueless when it comes to offensive sets.

Link to the album cover that Larsen did for Herb Ellis: LINK
Back in '84, he did an AP interview. There was a cartoon he drew, which had me and my friends baffled it just made no sense. In the article, the writer asked him about that particular one, and Larsen admitted that he drew it as an inside joke, about a college professor. Made me feel not quite as dumb.
He also drew an album cover for a jazz guitarist, Herb Ellis. Ellis "paid" for the cover by giving him guitar lessons.
