What does Grif NOT see in Borrego that it seems the rest of the league does?

Yet we keep plugging away with a knockoff version of Monty Williams. I don’t get it.

I think he is not allowed to fire Willie even if he wanted to at this point. You don't get 4 coaches in 6 years

Borrego is competent. Griff is not competent so he has no clue what that looks like

It's simply the fact that he extended Willie. He's tied at the hip to him.

Borrego is fine, but if 3 teams are interested in a guy with his resume, I think that says more about the talent pool being thin than Borrego being the next great coach. For comparison, I never got the impression he was on Finch's level as an offensive genius. One of Finch's many accomplishments as an assistant was that he got a Pelicans team to buy into what Gentry had been preaching for 2 years before Finch arrived. Lack of offensive buy in from a key player seemed to be a problem with the offense this year.

So to me it's not that Borrego is great and we'd be stupid to let him go, it's that this is probably not the best time to be changing coaches.

The rest of the teams aren't taking Borrego seriously.

Again, all those leaks about him being a top candidate are from Borrego's camp.

If they were legit, he would've been hired by now because he's been a "top candidate" for over a month now.

So are you saying that he won’t get hired by the Pistons, Cavs or Lakers? Even though its reported hes a top candidate for each job. If thats the case, Borrego has an amazing agent.

No he just has an agent putting him through the carwash.

This is nothing new. Maybe he does get hired, but if he does, it's more because his agent is putting up billboards saying that he is for sale, not because JB is some misunderstood coaching prodigy.

If he was that, he would've been hired a lot sooner and he would've had better jobs than with the Hornets and Pelicans.

Agreed. Where there’s smoke there’s usually fire and I doubt his agent is THAT good to have 2 playoff teams and Detroit wanting him. It’s an offensive minded game now in the NBA and that’s where Willie is a complete failure.

Better yet, how does Griff still have his job?

Like I said before, this is a huge offseason for Griff. He’s lost several people in the front office, potentially has to trade one of his stars, and this team has to make a leap in the west conf standings. It’ll be really interesting to see with the pressure on him, how he handles all this.

Borrego is a good coach, but let’s stop acting like he’s the next coming.

The problem lies in fact that Griff still has a job.

What does Griff not see in Borrego? Griff's likely the one that put Borrego on staff and made him associate head coach.
