re: Shamit says he's hearing a lot of noise about Griff being fired

Willie is an INFINITELY bigger problem than Griffin
Griffin hired Willie.
I also think he completely botched the Zion situation. He let the most unprofessional player since Tractor Traylor determine every roster move he made, and it resulted in throwing good money after bad.

Griffin should have been fired for trading the 4th pick for Jackson fricking Hayes and NAW.
Griffin should have been fired for blowing our cap space on the corpse of Derrick Favors and signing JJ Redick when we had Jrue Holiday and just got Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart, and just spent a 1st round pick on NAW.
Griffin should have be fired for hiring Willie Green.
Griffin should have been fired for not firing Willie Green.
Griffin should have been fired for extending Willie Green.
Griffin should have been fired for blowing every asset he fell into through the Davis and Holiday trades.
And Willie Green still is more deserving of being fired.

I’ll second this.
Griff has problems but is capable of being competent. Willie is just plain outmatched by other coaches and has had trouble developing our guys.

Yeah you can’t fire Griffin then saddle another GM with Willie’s bum arse
Nobody worth a shite will take him, which maybe why they’re looking at Dumars bum arse

I won't argue that he shouldn't be fired. What i will say is Griffin has put enough good pieces together for this to be a competitive team. The problem is he hired a coach with no tactical imagination and a personality that has made the team soft. Couple that with two "stars" in Zion and B.I. that just weren't good enough for a number of reasons.

Some things take time. If you hire a new president, he has to hire all new people at the executive and management level, including a new GM. If he starts a new build and scuttles the current roster, it might be smart to keep Green (avoiding a larger buy out) for a year as a bridge until the new president figures out which direction he wants to go. Or maybe they have someone in mind that is not available yet. Green would not makes waves and wouldn't mind as year as a planned loser, if we are rebuilding.

I don't like people talking shite about Dumars. He had a good run in Detroit that ended badly, like it does for the vast majority of GMs. He a solid professional with a good resume. He would probably do fine here and would bring a responsible culture to the organization. It's not the best pick and I'd rather someone younger, hungrier with a new vision. But we don't have to dog Dumars just because he isn't our 1st (or top 10) choice..

Willie talking in his presser like he’s already been told he is coming back…..

If I were him I wouldn’t make any plans before the end of tomorrow.

Guy repeatedly makes excuses and covers for an organization that has been an unmitigated disaster.

Who are you talking about? It can't be me. I want the team sold and the whole leadership changed. I've said that over and over.
I don't really care about Green. I don't think coaching is that important in basketball. He can come or go, it doesn't matter to me. I just think there could be some logic as keeping him as a placeholder for a year, while the organization resets. Maybe he can eventually be moved to a different role as well. I just don't see it as an urgent move. But everybody above him needs to go..

I will never ever smile again unless Griffin and Willie are mother fricking fired.

The FO had the biggest warchest in the league. So happy they hit on 15% of it
Netted us 20 wins in year 6 of a rebuild

Still think the warchest OKC had was larger.
That being said, look at where we were post-AD trade:
Jrue Holiday (29)
Brandon Ingram (22)
Zion Williamson (19)
Lonzo Ball (22)
Josh Hart (24)
JJ Redick (35)
E'twaun Moore (30)
Derrick Favors (28)
Kenrich Williams (25)
2019 1st round (4th overall pick)
2022 1st round (8th overall pick - ended up being Dyson Daniels)
2023 Pick Swap (not used)
2025 1st round (now to atlanta)
Now we have:
Zion Williamson (24)
CJ McCollum (33)
Trey Murphy III (24)
Dejounte Murray (31)
Herb Jones (26)
Jordan Hawkins (22)
Jose Alvarado (26)
Yves Missi (20)
Kelly Olynyk (33)
2025 1st round (Our own)
2026 Milwaukee Swap
2026 1st round (our own, Indy's top 4 protected)
2027 milwaukee swap -> lesser pick to atlanta with protections
Where we're at, we have less assets now than we did 6 years ago.Trading Zion, McCollum, and Murray would be the smartest move we could do to reaccumulate assets and rebuild with a fresh slate with a rookie guard like harper or edgecombe, jones, and murphy. Suck for another year due to being young with another top 5 pick (hopefully Dybantsa - SF, Peterson - SG, Ament/Boozer - PF, Cenac - PF/C). Building over 2-3 years and taking a huge leap like what is going on in Detroit (cade year 4).

Please include the health and training staff. You have to clean house after this.
I say give Mike Malone the keys. He’s a championship winner HC with strong ties to the organization. Let him pick his GM (within reason), his staff (including health and wellness), and let him decide on the direction of the team (especially when it comes to Zion).

If we fire Griff but keep Willie I’m done. If we fire Griff and hire Dumars, I’m done.
If we fire Willie and keep griff, I’ll maintain one foot out the door.
If we fire both, and don’t hire some over the hill GM like dumars, I’ll give them another year.
