Standard Jake. Dude sucks.

The bone is healed, its as simple as looking at an xray. His issue is conditioning. Zion already gets bashed because of his weight. Them coming out and being direct about this will do nothing positive towards the relationship between the team and Zion.

IF the bone is healed, it shouldn't take this long to get your conditioning up. If he's medically cleared for cardio work it shouldn't take longer than two weeks getting into shape.

I would counter you and say if Griff or Green came out and said something like "it's a conditioning thing at this point" everyone would accept that and be excited his return is moving along.

Also the shots of him on the sideline and his dunk videos he still looks heavy as shite. Not saying he's fat but the dude still looks absolutely massive.

I think the result of that statement would be for the internet to melt down over fat, lazy Zion. Because it does seem crazy if that's the sticking point, and he's known it's a sticking point, how can a professional athlete not get in game shape. It doesn't make sense.

I think the team doesn't want him to play and they are delaying the steps of the ramp up as much as they can. That also would explain the leaks/interviews from Zion's camp that at each step seemed to pressure the team into moving on to the next phase of the ramp up.

It's curious there hasn't been another leak.

McNamara has been saying he's put on additional weight and hasn't met benchmarks set by the training staff. Makes sense if that's the case.

This is 100% what is happening.

Team hadn't advanced him to 1 on 1, does dunk video. Team advances him to 1 on 1.

Hasn't advanced him to 5 on 5, Lee Anderson does interview...advances to 5 on 5.

The team does not want him to play. They disagree with him. They do not think it is worth the risk of re-injury. Sure, his foot may be fine for regular basketball activity...but is it fine enough to withstand Deandre Ayton landing on his foot?

I think the team just doesn't want to risk it and are trying to run out the clock.

What if the Portland/Nike rehab confirmed the Pels and Nelson’s analysis? Bone Health —> Conditioning (weight) —> Playing ?

Zion can likely dunk @ 350lbs. so dunking is irrelevant to his long term health. Very well could be a conditioning target agreed upon by Pels, Zion and Nike. This is called protecting his long term health, similar to holding out BI with his hamstring. Not what the casual fan wants but what is in the best interest of the player.

Once he’s cleared hurdles to playing, it’s WG’s job to best integrate him back into the Team.

I generally do not believe a word McNamara says, but I will say that I do feel Zion looks a little bigger than when he first came back from Nike

Griffin allowed this kind of behavior early on. If he would just put his foot down during his rookie season and forced him to get into shape before taking the court, him and his camp would not be playing this game right now.

By letting him get on the court while not being in basketball shape, it nurtured the behavior because he was so effective even when he was not in the proper shape. Putting the foot down now is causing tension no matter how it plays out.

I know we all want to see Zion out there but how would you feel if he did come back and landed wrong dunking or simply twisted his ankle or had someone land on his foot? One of these is almost guaranteed to happen it’s basketball. If he re-injured himself and had to go back to square one where we’d be without him again next year for a length of time people would lose their minds. To me he’s got to play 5 on 5 with his teammates not the coaches and ball boys and he’s got to do it for more than a couple practices and even then I wouldn’t play him more than 20 minutes.

At the very least it doesn't feel like he's continued improving, like you'd expect if he had more weight to lose and was focused on making that happen.

Maybe he needs to spend the entire offseason at Nike as well.

He just can't be trusted at home with mom

Have seen him at the games. He does not look any bigger. Besides, the amount of weight MM is talking about (8 lbs) would hardly be noticeable if even true. Not sure how MM would have access to that level of detailed info.

I don't know... He looks hella thicc on the screen. Not a good idea to plug him in to the playoffs from an extended sit. He'd blow through his shoes and his knees.

It's depressing that this is very believable and likely the case.

Trust me, the info is available. Random People have sources. People have proven that time and time again. At a couple different points in the last decade, I’ve had links inside the Pelicans (one time with Dell Demps) and I’m just a random dude that has nothing to do with the nba or the team other than just being local.

It is concerning that Zion has gained weight since coming back. If he really wants to play as much as the IG Dunk, Pregame Dunk, Lee Anderson Interview suggest, it’s a serious damn problem that he can’t at least maintain his weight in a 6-8 week span where his foot is actually healed enough to do traditional conditioning and almost fully traditional basketball practice.

That really does not bode well at all for the present or the future and I’d really lean towards trading him this offseason.

I hate saying that, but it’s true. If Zion can’t even keep weight off while he’s attempting to force the organization to play him in win or go home playoff games, what is he going to look like after a long summer in preparation for some regular season games?

It's not surprising that he put on some weight knowing that he likely ran out of time since the team wasn't supposed to escape the play-in

It is surprising just how fast he can do this though.. It's gonna be tough sledding if every time he misses a few games for a minor injury, he tacks on a bunch of extra weight

I absolutely agree with this. When we first saw him return I thought he looked in fantastic shape.

Last couple of weeks he’s looked a bit more chunky around the face? Thought maybe I was exaggerating but I guess it’s not just me …
