I think Griffin got unlucky here..

They never in a million years expected us to:

1. Make play-in
2. Win two play-in games
3. Steal home-court from the best team in the league
4. Opponent's best player potentially out

So they appeased Zion by letting him "ramp up" to games of horse and half-hearted scrimmages, knowing that they could run the clock out until our season was over.

Now there's an actual path to something great in front of us, and they'll have to decide how cautious they want to be..

I agree here. They did a lot of things to appease him but thinking the clock would run out. Now they are in a spot where the clock just keeps getting extended.

They’ve also never ruled him out for the season as a carrot to dangle in front of him… and now might have to let him get it (not a fat joke).

Bro what?

Griff couldn't have gotten any luckier. Regardless of Zion we defeated the Spurs, Clippers (without PG), and now we just went 1-1 against the Suns (Book hurt his hamstring).

How could things have gone any better?

I mean in his handling of Zion

Zion's dad said he came back from Portland early, meaning the team had no plans of him being available this season.

Suddenly the season looks like it could be longer -- and more important -- than expected, and they have to decide how aggressive they ACTUALLY want to be with him.. not just doing this bullshite "ramp up" to nothing

maybe.. but what happens when we're at game seven tied 3-3, or starting a series against Utah? and we're still telling Zion to dick around in the gym with Teresa?

A rusty medically cleared Zion is a huge upgrade over any minutes the combo of bench guys we run out there give you. In fact Point Zion would be ideal when you rest BI and or CJ at the end of 1st/3rd quarters.

No doubt. But I do wonder if Zion is willing to be a bench player for this playoff run. I would hope so.

I mostly just wish the pelicans/Zion would end this distraction. If Zion isnt cleared to play then say that and shut this conversation down. If he is cleared to play and it’s just a matter of getting in shape then I think he plays if he is willing to accept playing 15 minutes off the bench to start with.

Zion has lost all of his leverage, he has to abide by the team rules now. Us winning without him was the best thing because I think he will be onboard from here on out

I have said it before, but y'all refuse to listen: playing Zion isn't some judgement call.

I guarantee you that there were protocols that were agreed upon by Zion's personal doctor in California, the team, and Zion. When certain goals are met, then Zion progresses on to the next level. For example, one might be,

"Zion runs on a treadmill for ____ minutes at ___ speed, and his heart rate remains under ____."

It's all going to be based on Zion's biomechanics, as established by previous baselines.

It was clear that Zion didn't like it when Aaron Nelson set up those protocols by himself in the past, so he got his own doctor involved, which complicated things a bit, but there's absolutely a set of guidelines, and anyone who thinks that we are deviating from them is nuts.

I would love to see him play this weekend, but I think that the realistic hope is that we win this series and integrate Zion into our 2nd round plans.

There is a difference between being a bench player and coming off the bench. He very well still could close games out in lieu of Jaxson and still be around 20 mins per game.

Well one of those things is probably participating in multiple full practices and 5 on 5s with the team/starters, which he hasn't done, to our knowledge.

In a backwards way, shutting down Zion basically tells the rest of the team that you think they won't advance any further...

This "play for next year" bullshite is ridiculous. McCollum and Ingram could get injured in an offseason fishing accident and miss half the year, and we're right back where we are now.

The door is wide open, just frickin walk through it.

This guy fricks

Even if it’s just 5 minutes to get Zion the players and fan base even more bought in and excited

frick even just have him dress out on the bench for the home games…the time is now to plant the BI/CJ/Zion era for Pels basketball let’s fricking Flap

Pels need to finish off the Suns in 5 so they can have time to finish the ramp up and integration.

I like the way you think. Finish of the Suns in 5 and have the Mavs/jazz go 7.

Yep, and even if we do have a couple more, I doubt the intensity of them will be very high for any extended period of time. So he would have to go from no contact practices vs G league, to half arse practices with starters, to a home NBA playoff game against a 60+ win team with everything on the line?

Round 2 is ~2 weeks away depending on how deep this series goes. IF we somehow pull it off, and Zion has been 5 on 5 for two weeks while ramping up intensity, I could see him playing.

I’m not sure throwing him in cold now is fair to him or Willie and the rest of the team. If we were down 2-0 in 2 blowouts, sure, give it a shot. But we have given the suns hell and are 1-1. WE AINT FREAKING GIVING THIS UP

Except they’re going toe to toe with the best team in the league sans Zion, and have had one of the best offenses in the league since the McCollum trade. This current active group has a chemistry that a Pels team hasn’t had in a decade. It’s questionable to even assume theyd want to just throw Zion in blind in the middle of this series. They’ve accomplished so much without him despite all the noise that has come along with him
