Shoutout to David Griffin man

I liked Maxey, but people act like Kira Lewis was some scrub in those two years at Bama (he was also younger than most players - similar to Jeremiah Fears). His shooting was also better than Tyrese even as a freshman.
Issue is, we were so fricking close to getting Haliburton. That butterfly effect drastically changes our trajectory.

This! Guys are drafted where they are for a reason. It either works out or it doesn’t.

Kira was one of the smallest players in the nba when we drafted him. His ceiling was Darren Collison at best. It wasn’t a wise pick at all at 13, just like drafting an athletic 5 in Hayes with zero offensive skills in the top 10. Both of those size players with their skill sets and where we drafted them were long shots to be good nba players. Both picks were stupid decisions, and that’s not hindsight. History says they were always going to be long shots, and I’ve broken that down in the past in detail explaining why.
Most people on this board wanted Maxey.

I recall a bunch of dudes wanted Hali, poku, or Nesmith if they were there. Kira had fans too. Either way, the pick ended up as a big bust. None of the coaches that ended up coaching him ever believed in him and he did nothing to prove them wrong.
It's the price of the limited access to prospects during the Covid draft. You don't get to see how soft Kira was after contact and how bad of a finisher he was when he doesn't have a free lane to the basket.

It can be argued that move was the move that sent this franchise into a tailspin and a joke around the league. We should have had Maxey and Zion together.
PG: Maxey
SG: Trey
SF: Herb
PF: Zion
C: Missi
That could have been a really competitive team. Oh well…….

He said they were concerned with his shooting, and I remember a ton of people on here bringing up the Kentucky PG effect where guys suddenly get into the league and can shoot. He had a really high FT% of if I can remember correctly, and a bunch of people pointed to that as a sign of good shooting potential

People just like to make fun of the pelicans and rightfully so, but let’s not act like everyone knew maxey was going to be good lol. 20 teams passed on him

There were a lot of people on this board that talked up Maxey and wanted to get him. There was also a lot of people later that evening of the draft wanting to buy back into the late 1st and draft Bane.

I think Maxey has Mitchell/Booker/Murray type potential, as a scorer. He can be the next #13 pick to become an allstar.
Here's an interesting quote from Bunchie:

I'm totally open to Kira.
But am I the only one that has noticed that on this board on one other Pelicans pub, are among the very few places really to mention him as a legit top 13 pick? Everywhere else I look has him in the 20s.
Just thought it was an interesting phenomenon.
and an interesting response from ATL:
quote:
This compilation mock draft of all the top draft sites show his aggregate rank as 18. That’s still out of the lottery but not that far.

SI and The Athletic both have him 13 and CBS has him at 15.

We’re just believing things this guy says nowadays?
It’s not like Maxey went 1 pick after the Pels selected Lewis. There was even another PG selected after Lewis and before Maxey.
12th - Tyrese Haliburton
13th - Kira Lewis, Jr
15th - Cole Anthony
21st - Tyrese Maxey
This was all just Rich Paul wanting to match up his client with who everyone thought was going to be the next big superstar in Zion.
The Pelicans are an easy organization for Rich Paul to throw under the bus.

As his agent, i would imagine he was begging every team to draft him seeing as that would equal more money in his pocket.

Every player agent is basically virtually every team to take their players for the most part.

Yeah I am open to a lot of players mostly because I admit that I am not sitting here watching film on college basketball, I don't know shite
There was one guy on here BEATING the drum for Kira
I liked Hali and was praying he would fall

Idk why in 2020 anyone wants to draft a 6 foot player in the lottery. I don’t even want them on the team. If Jalen Brunson wins a chip as the best player on the Knicks, it’s a rarity for modern NBA.
I want the team to compete for chips, just not cheer for someone because they are NBA short and try hard.
To each their own though.

An agent tried to get the player he repped drafted higher?
I'm completely shook. This has never happened before.
