Yeah reason #1 why I'm confident Jrue won't be traded to the west. The odds should be 50% chance he returns to the pelicans and 50% chance he is traded to a eastern conference team.

No, they wouldn't be. Indy would want Jrue

Indy supposedly looking to get younger. Not sure they are a fit for Jrue.

I would think it is more likely he remains a Pelican. More like 60/40 or better.

How would a Hawks insider know this?

Unless their source is fricking Woj, this guy is full of shite.
Yeah, this guy clearly not an insider. Just throws a bunch of generic crap against the wall and if one hits, he claims success.

Disagree, our window is 3-4 years from now, we should just take the best deal possible.

Suppose we do a deal with the Nets....

It’s possible there will be some shake-ups from the last few years playoff teams. Which team would take on Levert if he’s not the player we want, and who could we get either young player, veteran, or pick from that team?

I'll never understand this. WHo cares if he goes to the West? You don't get to make the playoffs just b/c you won your division. This isn't football. You want to win a championship, you have to be the best, which means you have to beat everyone else who thinks they are the best. If you don't want to trade him to a team b/c you think they'll be too good, that's one thing, but not trading him to a team simply b/c they are in the West is idiotic. If a West team gives you the best deal, you do it. You don't go take a lesser deal just b/c of conference affiliation.

East vs west doesn’t matter

Yes, you get the best value. Even if it meant trading Jrue to a rival. West v East doesn’t mean jack

There's also value in not helping a division rival who you play 4 times a year and you are competing with for the division title. Even if Dallas had a lot of assets, it'd have to be head and shoulders above everyone else's to get Jrue. Kind of like how the Lakers weren't just bidding against themselves for AD, they were also bidding against petty spite trades.

I get that if we were trading a guy who’s in his mid 20s. Trading a guy who’s 30+ shouldn’t really warrant that concern. Especially when we aren’t expecting to really compete for a couple more years.

I see your point tho

"Sounds like the Pelicans are looking for a third team to facilitate a Jrue Holiday trade (where Holiday gets to a contender). I wonder if the Hornets would make any sense for that."

He's the beat writer for the Charlotte newspaper.

If Charlotte would do a Wiggins for Batum swap to move up to #2 from #3, then they could definitely be a facilitator.

Pels talk:

“Nicholas Batum”

I wonder if some framework of this would work:

Pels:
3
Dinwiddie

Charlotte:
LeVert
Allen

Brooklyn:
Jrue

Not sure if Brooklyn would feel like they are giving up too much. If so, the same trade would work with us getting Kurucs instead of Dinwiddie. I only included Dinwiddie because there were rumors earlier that he could be had.

Charlotte wouldn’t do that. They want Wiseman.

Only thing that would make sense is some variation of

Pels: 3, Batum, Looney
Hornets: 2, Wiggins
Warriors: Jrue

Can’t figure out how to even up value about here though. Don’t love it.

Bruh, you mean I can finally get Batum on this team and you don’t like it

ETA: obviously joking about the Batum part, but I would definitely take it. Picks 3 and 13 in this draft without taking on long term salary.
