Some of yall have way ti much recency bias and put way to much stock in summer league play.
The point and reason of this coming up is because some of us were saying this before summer league. The question was, has your recency bias brought you to this realization.
Short story is, Hawkins needs to shoot above 40% from three to be an effective basketball player. He’s not likely in the rotation currently. And he’s one of the only available trade able salaries not named Brandon Ingram and CJ McCollum.
Is the drop off from Hawkins to Reeves on the deep bench more important to maintain as compared to the team not having a starting center on the roster? I think the answer is obvious, but going to take some time for others.

CJ and BI could very well be gone in a year or two. No reason to make shortsighted moves before BI's saga finish playing out.
We could very well trade Hawkins but it wouldn't make sense to do it unless it's for a needle moving big that they consider a long term solution at a position need.

I don’t completely disagree with this to be sure. But a mantra I kept saying last year is that EVERY game counts. We are not good enough to give games away. ONE game was the difference between us being tied for 5th and us having to fight for two games in the play in and losing Zion to injury.
Starting the season without a center will cause us to lose more than one game. And I’m not sure we recover.

You are missing the fact that with Naji and Dyson gone Hawk will absolutely be in the rotation of this team.
Also is there a drop off from a guy that’s legitimately proven he can score against NBA talent over a 2nd round pick that hasn’t proven shite?
Uhhhh YEAH

There’s this team you may have heard of that won multiple championships trotting out centers that were worse than what we have on our roster

Are you referring to the Warriors? Because they did not have worse centers than us. Bogut and Looney were decent NBA rotation centers and Draymond- defensively was one of the league’s best small ball 5s. Lets not forget that yea we have firepower on offense but we dont have guys like Curry, Klay and even KD in their prime. Those are HOF players.

Soooo, exactly what we have? Theis has been a decent rotation center his entire career, Karlo looks to be every bit the part of that also.

Those guys won them the championships, my point is that you can make the playoffs without having elite centers. With the comments about Pels wanting to play smaller and faster that’s exactly mimicking what GS did those years, sure we dont have KD, Steph and Klay, but overall we have way more firepower with 4 guys that average over 20 ppg and a 5th that can average it.

As per usual Soggy, if your opinion is that Theis at 32 and choosing us over going to Europe, is as good as Bogut and Looney, we are going to have to strongly disagree.

You may just want to take a minute to go look at Bogut and Looney in the 2014-15 season which is the only season GS won a title with them playing, and get back to me.
In fact just go look at all their centers from their 4 year run and look at how truly awful they were and get back to me.
And for the record Theis had multiple NBA offers as well as bigger money offer in Europe

Theis fell out of the rotation with the pacers and clippers last year. We have no idea what Karlo is. Bogut and Looney were critical pieces needed when those teams had to go big. They played minutes in the playoffs when needed and played very well. They weren’t third string centers.

What are we doing here? You think we have way more firepower than than those guys? I get it its the offseason but be a little reasonable.

I think most were pretty minimum offers.

We always wanted a center who could shoot 3s, and now we have one in Theis, who shot 37% from deep last season. If Theis can reliably bring opposing centers away from the basket, then that opens up everything for Zion in a spectacular way (what we once thought we were getting in Nicolo Melli).
Yes, Theis is 32, but that's the same age as Jonas. That's old, but not that old.
It's interesting that the LEBRON impact database gave Theis a -1.28 O-LEBRON and a +0.09 D-LEBRON last season, meaning that he was an above-average defender for his position. And our starting unit doesn't need a lot of offense from the center position -- a guy who can shoot open 3s at a good rate will do just fine.
Theis is not that great of a player, but I think he's a great fit.

The Clippers had Zubac and Plumlee, both of whom are better then Theis (and a better fit for that roster). That doesn't mean that Theis is a bad player.
Same thing in Indiana, where, yes, Myles Turner and Jalen Smith were better than Theis.

Never said he was. I said he was a third string center that fell out of the rotation.

And Isaiah Jackson- so he was technically fourth string.

I agree with this I just wish he wasn’t our defacto starter. I like him for depth though.

On Christian Clark’s pod from today he predicted that if there is no trade before the season, the starting lineup would be:
Theis
Zion
BI
Herb
DJ
Theis
Zion
BI
Herb
DJ

The Euro part was posted on Twitter not long before he signed. I didn’t know the Pels were going to sign him at the time, but I remember thinking he must be only getting minimum offers and this was an effort to try and get more. It definitely seemed more agency leak than news.

You keep naming Bogut as this big piece and reason they won. You do realize they won three ships with him not on the roster. Can you even name the other big center they had besides Looney?

Bogut was the starting center on their first championship team, a former #1 overall pick, true 7 footer that averaged over 2.5 blocks per 36 and was a great screener and passer. The other center was Draymond Green and we are comparing to our disaster of a center situation. I’m not sure why we are humoring this conversation any further than tapping soggy on the head.

Ok lets go with the theory that we have “warriors like centers” which is honestly not true. Now do we have players on this roster outside of center from a talent perspective close to Draymond, Klay, Steph and KD in their prime?
This is why the Warriors comparison is absolutely bonkers and not sure why it keeps being brought up. And no, I’m not changing the subject because if you have warriors like centers- you need to have a team filled with warriors HOF talent as well.
