Nah, you have had it explained to you plenty of times, and yet you persist in thinking that each player in the NBA has a specific position that he plays. You aren't interested in learning anything, so no one should waste their time trying to explain to you how the modern NBA is about skills and responsibilities much more than positions

Great dodge. I figured you wouldn't be able back any of that up, as always. So my point stands..

Depends on how you view Jose. In both those scenarios don’t think he’s here much longer.

Honestly I don’t see Jose as being capable of being THE primary backup PG on a team, he can definitely be the 3rd though and give you 10-12 minutes of pure energy every night. I just don’t see Jose being able to be as effective as he is with 25+ minutes a night, as that takes a lot of of a guy to bring the type of energy he does for that long night in and night out.

I don't believe this. It is totally dependent on the team and system. This is an extreme example, but someone like Brunson defies all convention and finds the right place/time, then is able to capitalize. It could be a similar situation for Alvarado, if he finds the best fit. Look at someone like Mario Chalmers, borderline NBA guy. But landed on a team desperate for a PG. He carved out 400 starts in a 10 year career and won 2 rings, as a starter. You just never know..

DJ has averaged about 36 mpg over the past 3 seasons, you only need about 12 minutes of backup PG minutes.

I prefer 0 starters hitting past 32mpg.

Seems like that's the safe spot for a lot of players. Do I have evidence of that, absolutely not. But less mpg isn't a bad thing imho

The issue is look at their styles of play where they are methodical in their energy approach. Jose goes 150 mph from the moment he checks into the game. That is not easy to do for 20+ minutes a night and still maintain your effectiveness. We’ve already seen it with him where he becomes less effective in his approach after playing big minutes a few games in a row. 10-12 minutes of pure energy is what we need from Jose, not 25 minutes of bursts.

I know it's not the NBA, but Jose did just play 4 games in 5 days for Puerto Rico.

He averaged 24mpg, 16pts, 50% shooting (overall and from 3 (12/24)).

Jose is EXACTLY what teams want in a backup PG. See TJ McConnell.

Jose (given his contract) is one of the more valuable players on the team. The stats support that. The fan base supports that. The teammates play on the court supports that. You can visually see a difference in the pace/style of the game when Jose comes in.

I feel like I'm the only one that noticed OKC played Jose off the court in the playoffs. Note, this was at a time when our primary ball handler was having his arse handed to him all series by Lu Dort and we could have used more backup ball handling.

Don't believe me, Jose in the Phoenix series as a rookie 19.5 MPG. Against OKC last year, 15.5 MPG.

Jose having issues in the playoffs is a problem. That doesn't mean they have to move him, but just like you typically need a big 7 footer and a mobile big, we need an alternate backup PG.

Be careful, the people that don't think Jose has trade value will come in here and tell you how important he is to our success.

the playoffs are always matchup dependent.

McConnell played 18mpg against the Bucks, 21mpg against NYK, and 24mpg against Boston

Pritchard played 23mpg against Miami and Cleveland. Then played 16mpg against Indy, and 12mpg against Dallas.

And what is your point lol?

That Jose lost the matchup in the playoffs as stated above?

Was this supposed to be a defense?

I am not sure what Jose's ceiling is, but he has improved every season.

Jose has shown flashes of being a good back up PG and he had also been played off the floor by bigger guards.

I didn’t feel Jose was played off the court, he just wasn’t hitting his shots and was therefor not effective. Pretty much like everyone else on our roster

Tyus Jones would have won us the series i bet.

He's a role player. sometimes role players are really affective, sometimes they aren't.

We didn't get our arse beat b/c of our backup PG, i can guarantee you that.

When i look at our roster i want to see 7 proven playoff pieces. I don't consider Jose to be in that 7, and that's not a big deal to me. He'll single handedly win us games in the regular season. I'm not expecting him to be a difference maker in the playoffs. That's Zion and BI's job. After that it falls on guys like CJ and Trey to hit their shots, and for Herb and Larry to play great D.
JV was similarly played off the court in the playoffs, although that seemed to be more of a coaching issue.

We added Murray, and we'll add a 5 that can play.
Zion/BI/Murray/CJ/Trey/Herb/starting 5
Those are the guys that make a difference in the playoffs. the rest of the roster making a difference would simply be lagniappe, and they would never be anythign close to a reason why we lost a playoff game.

I don’t think Tyus Jones fixes Zion being out due to injury and BI being hobbled to where Lu Dort shut him down.

He also got hurt. A lot. Giving 150mpg while taking those body blows, elbows, diving, etc. They take their toll on his body.

Guys like fvv and Brunson defied logic because they are also thick enough to endure the grind. Alvarado may give you a solid 15mpg in the playoffs, but he has to have offensive players around him to help. Zion, Ingram, McCollum, etc.

Agree. He is a league minimum role player. He is not a top 8 player in the rotation. All teams need an inexpensive. high energy, low usage player. He is fine. I do not understand the complaining.

Is your groundbreaking point that Jose is not a viable backup PG because he can have a bad matchup? I don’t think it’s fair to disregard all of the obvious positive impact stats he has for the Pels because he has a bad matchup vs a team with a big, physical backcourt (and a team that dominated everybody, not just Jose)

Even star players have bad matchups. Luka just got dominated matchup wise by the Celtics relative to how he played against teams like the Twolves and Thunder

Ideally he’s a cheap 12-15 mpg guy, and someone that we can live without if we play a big, physical team

You don't understand the comment you just made and why some people make the comment "we can still improve at PG"?

Its ironic that y'all don't understand the simple point that y'all continue to state in your defense of him.
