Porzingis is not physical either and is the same weight and barely 2 inches taller. Lauri and KP is a pretty solid comparison.
Porzingis blocks almost 2 shots a game. Lauri .5.
Not even close to the same level of rim protector.

Have Z and Lauri in a PnR

It's not even a real discussion to theorize whether Lauri can play the 5 on a full time basis. Whoever chooses to think he can, I can assure you Griff and Willie don't. We just let go of a solid, built traditional center who is physically capable to defend those types in the paint.
Griff and Willie let him go because he didn't do it well enough to their liking nor could he defend the paint to their lofty standards. But, lets go put Lauri, not even thought of as an above average defender, so to speak, and definitely not a paint protector in that role and assume he will succeed. Ok. He's likely to do worse than Larry did, tbh.

Yeah WCJ is getting traded. That was pretty much confirmed yesterday with Isaac extension and Goga. Wagner bros were going to stay together.
I really hope we are targeting WCJ to be our backup PF/ C.
I'm good with WCJ as our starter if we pair him with another good center like Kessler or someone like that. We can't roll into the season with WCJ at center and a bum at backup, because WCJ gets injured so often.

So why are we interested in Lauri then? Is it your assumption we’ll put him at PF and move Zion. You think thats what Griff and Willie want?

First of all, that's a gross mischaracterization. They didn't let JV go, Willie did him dirty and ran him off.
Second, even if they add Lauri as the "center" you need someone like Kessler and until Missi is ready probably a 3rd big body to absorb at least 30 MPG. If you're using Lauri at center the plan is to out score the competition in those minutes.

I agree with this. I think Griff is targeting Lauri and Kessler. Its not just Lauri FT at center which people assume. If Zion is hurt you can then put Lauri at PF and move Kessler to center. Its why Lauri is valuable as well.

JV stopped Sabonis. What did we end up winning?
6 games against the Kings and a playoff birth.

Im sure it works on 2K all day. Real life, not so much. Lauri is not a 5. Let's just agree to disagree. If he was, he would play the 5, that simple. He wont play the 5 when he ages either. He is not physically inclined to do so.

Ok now tell me about that thunder series against Chet? I was talking bigger picture. The goal is not to get swept in playoffs and dominate the kings.

Lauri isn't a good rim protector, but he was elite in isolation this past year.
Good rim protection starts by playign good perimeter defense.
Good team perimeter defense from us would mean CJ isnt' on the court.
He is more detrimental to rim protection than whoever is playing center.
Here's a reminder from a thread i started about a month or so ago on center stats.
LINK
Defending in Isolation
under 35% eFG
Isaac
Wiseman
Hartenstein
Bam
Markannen
under 40% eFG
Mobley
Gobert
The fact that Markannen is in the same category as those names says a lot about that specific aspect of defending for him.
Markannen is our perfect 5, as long as we have a big body capable backup.

Thank you Teddy for those stats. I agree the hope is to get a Kessler or another big body center.

Let's not overlook the glaring fact that Griff ALLOWED Willie to dirty JV and then DIDNT EVEN consider resigning him at $10 mil a year or maybe lesser. Not even a offer hinted at.
Obviously, JV was not considered an ideal Center for this team by everyone involved.

MArkannen starts at the 5 and you will see your backup more than Markannen on a consistent basis. Early foul trouble would be Markannen's M.O. Then there would be bitching saying he's foul prone.

Griff traded for and extended Jonas and never felt the need to touch the position. You’re giving him too much credit
Who are the WC centers you are worried about? Guys like Jokic is getting buckets on whoever you throw out there anyway

Can you show something backing this up? I don’t understand where hes foul prone is coming from?

If Griff is considering Lauri its not to man the Center position, rest assured. He would definitely trade for Kessler too at that point or the throw in of John Collins as the backup 4/5 and still go find a true Center.
Posted on 7/2/24 at 2:58 pm to Ijuschill1
I can tell you this, if the Warriors have to give all that up to get Lauri, they wont be a play-in team, let alone a championship contender. Steph, Lauri and a bum Draymond??? Doesn't move the needle.

Ihart/Chet
Gobert/Towns
Zubac
Lively
Nurkic
AD
Sabonis
Looney
Sengun
Kessler
Edey
Wemby
Ayton/Clingan
Every single one. And every guard or wing driving to the basket.
