This morning, I allowed Tim Legler to convince me that the Mavs are becoming a very formidable opponent. Are they that tough?

Well they have the probably the two best offensive scorers in the league.
When they are both on, they are an extremely hard team to beat.
They are made for the playoffs.

They are very good and can score with anyone. In the playoffs if Kyrie and Luca actually play defense, they’ll be very tough.

They don’t have a great supporting cast but they have enough to keep you honest.

As far as a Pel/Mavs matchup goes, they’ve got no one to match up with Jonas

The first step in success is getting Christian Woods off your team. So they got that going for them. The Lakers however

Probably still a year away from being a serious contender. They are trying to shore up their defense...and are counting on Lively to be much improved by next season. Add a solid "3 & D" wing that can stand at the 3-pt line and hit open 3s when Doncic kicks the ball out to him...and they are in business.

Bet they would luv to have their own "Herb Jones"

Them paired with Gafford and Lively in the pick n roll will suck to play against. Thank god we've played all 4 games against them this season

They are very good. They will ascend the rankings in the regular season.

I'll believe it when I see it in the playoffs.

They have Tim Hardaway Jr and Josh Green who are both good three point shooters and serviceable defenders. Derrick Jones Jr has improved to where he at least hit open corner threes. They really do seem to have a complete roster after the trade deadline. They don’t have a clear #3 option but they now have a fairly deep roster.

But yes they would love to Herb Jones Jr. All nba defender on a great contract hitting 40% from three. I get a small stiffy just thinking about it.

Hardaway is a fine No. 3 when you have a 1-2 that can put up 70 easily.

They are much better than I thought they'd be because somehow they've improved the roster with zero assets.

I still think Kyrie will get hurt or do something stupid.

I like Dallas more than Phoenix. Beal isn't all that and their depth is shite.

West is just stacked. I think Minny falls off a ton. Sac is gonna get passed by GS and the Lakers.

Very scary. I think they're a darkhorse contender. They have a top 5 player. Theyve built some good depth.

They'll have 2 more picks to trade this offseason. Theyve turned it around quickly

I like our matchup against them. Herb stays on Luka, and you just throw bodies at Kyrie and try to make him quit. Their inside with Gafford and Lively is scary, but I don’t know if they have an answer for Zion

to me, they are basically the same.... top heavy, not a lot of bench, though i do like Dallas' bench, after the trade deadline, more...

they traded it all away to get Beal!

i don't... OKC might though.... lots of youth on that squad, how they handle the pressure down the stretch is going to be interesting...

Lakers, probably, GS, i dunno... they are too up and down this year... maybe they'll get right, but as of right now, i dunno about that one

To be fair, we have seen how good Luka can be in the playoffs.

I'm going to need a much larger sample size to see how well they are able to defend the high pick-and-roll before I get too scared of them. I feel like teams are going to attack the shite out of Luka/Gafford come playoff time. Gafford is a really good shot-blocker, but he has a reputation of poor effort and defensive recognition. He often relies too much on his ability to recover, which results in a pretty poor foul rate.

I think so. They upgraded their depth without gutting the team (novel idea), now at the same time Luca and Kyrie are playing really good ball. Mavs picked up Gafford and P.J. Washington (Griff and Trajan really slipped on this IMO just by not playing defense at the trade deadline) and still have Lively, Hardaway Jr. and Kleeber.

Good thing though is Mavs are behind Pels in division play and they can keep an eye on them for seeding purposes ....if they take off Pels have to match their pace.

Agreed on the Wolves, disagreed that both GS and the Lakers will pass the Kings. Maybe one of those teams will but I really doubt both will. Lakers still have depth issues and the possibility of AD and/or Lebron going down due to history/age, and the Warriors still need a second, consistent scoring option behind Steph. Maybe that is Kuminga but those two teams are both flawed. As such, I still favor the Kings because of the Sabonis/Fox combo and the best bench piece in Monk. The wildcard for them is Keegan Murray's development. He has become their bet defender but his offense disappears at times.

Getting that 6 seed is so important for obvious reasons but further, there's a chance that the 7 seed may have to go through the Warriors in the play in, then the Lakers if you lose the first one.
