On the flip side, if you send out AD to the Knicks at the deadline, you make them significantly better and decrease their chances of getting a top 2 pick, drastically.

Right! Seems a bit to risky for me. I would do the under the table deal to the Celtics for Tatum, Brown, Smart, and 3 1’s if it’s available instead of gambling on the lottery. At least I know what I’m getting but that’s just me. I’m not in charge lol.

Not significantly. I ran all the numbers and you are lowering the #1 pick by 2 percent and top 3 by 4 percent

What you are actually doing is decreasing the odds that the pick is 4 or 5 and increasing the odds it is 6 or 7

Yeah. I understand the gambit. It’s a bold play.

I think Boston has a lot of downside in it, particularly if it leaks out.

The Lakers would have to give up on next year, not sign anyone this offseason to have a max spot in 2020, so no, he can’t sign with the Lakers in 2020 b/c they aren’t going to wait for him at Lebrons age.

If they dont get Kawhi, Klay, KD, or Kyrie (which they won't), they arent going to blow cap space on Kemba Walker. They will wait. Also, the cap goes up summer of 2020.

AD is going to be a laker on opening night 2020. Bookmark it.

Uh no. Lebron has 2 years left basically.

They aren’t going to punt on one of them.

Thanks for the info.

I'd think Irving prefers New York for no other reason than the clean slate it provides and the ability to help select the people around him rather than playing with whatever Ainge puts around him.

But what Irving wants or doesn't want has no real impact on us, he'll likely make his decision after the trade so our domino will be the first to fall. But in the unlikely event that Irving does sign somewhere first, it'd only make the losing team more desperate for AD. The only nightmare scenario is that teams punt and wait to recruit AD in 2021, but that's exceedingly unlikely to happen. Someone will want him for a run next season.

You are thinking about this wrong. We shouldn't and wont make an AD deal before the deadline (as MM said). We will wait until the offseason because that opens up two more benefits for the Pels:

1. The draft order will be known. There's no point in arguing about how good or bad the Knicks deal for AD will be before knowing where they fall in the draft.
2. The Celtics are free to make a deal without Kyrie.

Also... in terms of this season, the Knicks just got worse. Didn't think it was possible, but it happened. They sent out their leading scorer for the year (Hardaway) and Trey Burke (20 min/g) along with KP (not playing this year) and Lee (played in 12 games, listed as DtD). In return they got DSJ, who will contribute but he will not be as impactful as Hardaway and Burke, along with DeAndre Jordan and Wes Matthews. DJ and WM will be bought out so they will not play for the Knicks. I am almost certain the Knicks will finish with the worst record in the NBA.

True, but the Celtics want to WIN so punting away a year to contend for the title is not happening. Plus, they will not win a free agency war for AD. They need to acquire him, contend and win him over. Meanwhile, the Knicks are tired of losing and now is the time for them to make their move for superstars. Trading for AD makes it much easier to then sign one or two other stars.

It's all about the superstars, and Boston has one they must keep (Kyrie) plus one they must acquire to ever get (AD). New York needs a superstar to kick-start their dreams of turning a dumpster fire into contention while making their cap space really work for them.

How much of the Pelicans outcome is then pegged to Ainge keeping his word if we wait past the deadline? If Kyrie, not the most stable guy, makes an announcement he's not resigning, can Boston really still deal Tatum + player + multiple picks or does his offer change? Obviously, a handshake deal on what will happen in July is not enforceable by the league.

Stop biting the hand that feeds you. I am sorry that you feel inferior, but I am by far the best guy you have. If you don't want to know the future, don't read my stuff. But don't act like I am not the reason the future is now so much more obvious to y'all

I don’t feel inferior, I’m not trying to be a pelicans expert. I’m criticizing you for posting the same stuff I can read on any website or see for myself, then acting like you’ve got some “inside source” who’s telling you big time secrets like “hey, the Pelicans don’t like what the Lakers have as much as the Celtics or Knicks”. But everyone on this board can look and see it for themselves. If you stopped posting completely this board would lose nothing as far as valuable information

So there's not any significant talk about taking a Knicks deal now? Part of the talk now should be whether or not to accept some risk in the Knicks pick in exchange for better sweeteners. Whatever the Knicks current offer will likely only go down if talks are pushed back and the pick is known #1.

It's totally a philosophical and risk tolerance situation. Trading with the Knicks now could be a homerun swing. Or they play it safe and wait to see how the picks shake out but maybe receive less if the trade is ultimately with the knicks and #1.

Why is Chris Broussard on the Herd saying the Knicks are out? He just said yesterday was a win for the Lakers.

I'm definately not a cap guy, but couldn't the Celtics still pursue someone with most of the money they'd have set aside for Kyrie, someone like a Klay, Kawhi, KD, Kemba or someone else. I understand they may not be able to make as much as Kyrie, or maybe they give a slight discount, but AD in Boston could still attract a great FA that a Tatum and/or Hayward does not attract.

Ainge is not making a future deal with a lame duck. Davis trade value decreases with time especially given his agent.

My guess Boston's final offer will be Hayward and draft choices especially with Kyrie free agency. The Knicks offer will be draft choices and a point guard not named Smith.

When the NYK traded for Smith last night, they eliminated Kyrie. Boston won without Kyrie and he is not a fit in their motion offense. L A is Kyrie first option.
