1. Zhou Qi - 7'.75"

I just pulled up some highlights, and he's like a strange mix of Dirk and Shawn Bradley. If he can put on some weight, he might be a player several years from now. This is why we need a strong DLeague though, he might not make it to that point.

Very interesting prospect. Big thing with Qi is his age. Supposedly 20, but some have speculated he's as old as 24 despite looking young.

If he is actually 23-24, then seriously doubt he can add the bulk necessary to become a player. Projected right now to go in the 1st.

so James Harden size, except an inch and a half shorter wingspan, but he's undersized.

Wait, I thought you were one of the people that argued that height without shoes is irrelevant.

ETA: NBA Combine Measurements

Lester:

quote:

Robinson was 6' 8 3/4" with shoes.

For anyone not good at math, he's basically 6'9"

Gyno:

You mean they play in shoes now???

Then why did you make a point out of Hield's height WITH shoes?

Do you really think Drummond is playing in shoes with 2 inch soles? Sounds like a great deal for his ankles.

because they give 2 measurements, one with shoes and one without, and they happen to play in shoes, so why would I post the one without shoes?

Because people wear insoles and such to add height at the combine. Yes, they play in shoes, but since they all play in shoes, without shoes takes the sole thickness variable out of the measurement. They can't game the measurement barefoot.

In that thread I posted, it was pointed out that Andre Drummond measured a full 2 inches taller in his shoes. That's like George Costanza in his Timberlands.

No measurements for Simmons, Ingram or Murray is frustrating.

what kind of insoles do they wear?

The worst example was probably Anthony Brown last year:

6'5.25" without shoes
6'8.5" with shoes

That's 3.25" in shoe-aided height. Hell, consider me 6'4"

Why do they want to know their measurements with and without shoes

I get non participation in basketball related things, but it seems that a combine invite should come with a media obligation.

quote:

Keith Pompey ?@PompeyOnSixers 2 hours ago

#Duke SF Brandon Ingram & #Oklahoma SG Buddy Hield both opted not to speak to the media at the #NBADraftCombine.

There's also this

quote:

Keith Pompey ?@PompeyOnSixers 2 hours ago

Buddy Hield was stopped & asked how did his #Sixers interview go. His response: "Why do you have ask me questions?" And briskly walked away.

I don't think it's a big deal, probably Buddy trying to follow his agent's orders not to talk to anyone, but not even giving player speak answers seems like a stupid strategy. I guess I could see it if you have fears about dealing with the media, but Ingram and Hield are high profile enough that they shouldn't.

To measure their vertical.

They take their height without shoes because it is their actual height.

They take their height with shoes to compare it with their standing reach, which is done with shoes. Subtracting height from standing reach starts to describe their frame along with wingspan.

They do their standing reach with shoes because they wear shoes when jumping for their vertical. Vertical is found by subtracting standing reach to the highest point touched on the jump.

I honestly don't know enough about the inner workings of the combine to know if guys ever change shoes between workouts. I can't imagine a guy ran his agility drills in 3.25" lifts.
