i think Dunn is somewhere between Payton and Wall. He's a better scorer than Payton but he isnt Wall.

Let's say Reggie Jackson

So prime Dunn is rookie Wall?

No shame in that, just curious what you are thinking

I mean we are gonna use a wall comp let's throw a Wade comp out there too

Throw a little Jrue in there. Maybe some rondo

On the off chance Minnesota could look at Dunn with 3, 5 or 6... If any other team but us is going to jump into the top 2, I hope it is them.

I hope Minny doesn't land in the top 2 and even worse land Simmons.

I know LSU fans are low on him but Thibs with a core of Lavine, Wiggins, Simmons and KAT sounds like a miserably tough core to deal with for a long time. Throw in whoever they likely trade Rubio for that can be an off ball, spot up shooting PG in that scenario and I would have nightmares at their 5 year projection as a team.

So, outside of Jrue, just find some guys who can't shoot to make the comparison?

There's almost no similarities between Payton and Dunn's games. Payton's a prodding, below the rim point guard with no ability to score the ball. Sagging off of him basically takes him out of games.

Dunn's an explosive player who'll be able to get to the rim despite the lack of shooting. Really fast in the open court and his length could make him a plus defender. In addition to the similar measurables, he plays with a similar herky jerky, some times out of control, style, as a young Wall. Similar awkward, fading, pull up jumpers that Wall has improved, but Dunn is still bad at.

Its just pointing out similarities. So no, he's not a perfect Wall clone. But Payton, Rondo, (insert guard who can't shoot), comparisons are lazy. I think LE's Reggie Jackson comparison is solid, although I think Dunn has more straight line speed and will probably be a more willing passer.

Brett Dawson with a write up on Kris Dunn. More than is listed in the tweets posted earlier, you guys should really click the link. He's been doing a great job covering the team and we should let the Advocate know we appreciate them flying a reporter out to cover the draft combine.

Im convinced you never watched Payton (and maybe Dunn) play

Payton took 41% (300 of his 730 attempts) of his FGA at the rim this season and converted at a 58% clip. Rondo has been operating similarly for years. They cannot shoot, like Dunn. All possess speed and quickness and similar wingspans. Rondo ast% and defensive rebounding% match up favorably with Dunn's track record.

So using Wall is pointing out similarities and the others are lazy? Cmon. Comparing him to one of the top PGs and best rookies in recent memory is what, exactly? Like hey, let's toss out the ultimate superlative on this guy.

Payton led rookies in steals and assists his rookie year. 6th in rebounds, 2nd in DBL DBLs, 2nd in minutes. He and Dunn have a lot of similarities in their game, whether you want to admit it or not. Everything from the playing style to measurables. It's not an insult to Dunn to compare him to Payton. It's a realistic starting point for a rookie.

And Payton is 24 days older than Dunn, fwiw.

Jaylen Brown interviewed with the Jazz and Hawks. His draft range is huge and his agent knows it. Suns did not interview him. In contrast Poetl refused to meet with Jazz.

Never understood why agents make their clients do this. Who knows, the Jazz may be trying to trade up. Why "refuse" to talk to them.

Pels met with:

AJ English
Isiah Whitehead

as two of their 18 interviews allowed.

Both are 6'3"-6'4" SGs (English is also a PG).

Both 6'3"-6'4" with big wingspans at 6'8" and 6'10" along with Dunn.

Eric Gordon, Jrue Holiday, Austin Rivers, Tyreke Evans? Those guys aren't combo guard types?

He's being sarcastic. It also makes sense to focus on guard because there aren't a ton of good SFs outside of the top 2, and while I would be open to drafting the right bigs, big is not a need at all unless plan to move some guys or let Ryno walk.

I'm ok with drafting a Guard (mostly because the SF in the draft outside of Ingram don't work for me), as long as we get 1-2 SFs in FA.

Wasn't meant as a negative

I was alluding to the fact that they may actually address a need with guys who could fit in our offense instead of trading away the 2s. Build some depth, maybe hit on a wild card.

Instead of acquiring guys like

Utah center Jakob Poeltl says he interviewed with the Pelicans here at the Combine.

That's 2 top 10ish bigs with Poetl and Skal.
