Team needs some much infused discipline , can communicate effectively and foster a family like environment. Remember, the core of this team, excluding Jrue and Hart, has had 1 yr of college coaching and then shite to further their maturation (Walton, Gentry).
Griffin wants someone to teach them more than just X and O's. He wants a culture to be instilled in his players, akin to Pop in SA.
Not many coaches are a known commodity in that regard. The family part is why they feel they have a shot to get Coach K.

Hey guess what...I just heard a rumor about Coach K interested in the Pelicans job. Don't say anything though they want to keep it on the down low.

If you look at irvin's post history here, he doesn't fit the troll or attention seeker profile. He posts pretty infrequently, and when it he does it's usually a long, detailed post with basketball analysis.

Even if we assume this isn't trolling, why would Chris Duhon know this? Maybe coach K has talked about this generally before so it's something those with close ties know he wants, but this is being represented like he has present knowledge of something that is in the works. I would imagine the circle of trust is pretty tight if they are really trying to make something happen.

I want it to be true so bad.

Coach K comes in and instills a family like, disciplined culture for this young team and builds our core's identity, while also training one of his younger assistants to take over for him when he's done.

Coach K coaches 3-4 more years, wins a ring and passes the baton to whoever is his protege in waiting. That's an ideal scenario.

I do too. But I also remember when Jerry Rice was going to be LSU's WR coach.

This thread is more fun than I expected.

Maybe there’s internal discussion on making a play. Maybe K has joked about it given the connections.

But there is literally no chance that K is leaving Duke to come here. He will retire at Duke. The end.

The good news is 33 people downvoted you. I didn’t think we had 33 active posters.

It's officially the off-season now dude. We have hundreds of posters during the off-season.

But during the season we have 20-25. Weird.

This is not college and negative recruting by telling players a coach may leave or retire.
The window for a chip is NOW! If we are Duke South, why not get them man that started it all?

The title window is not now, in reality. It’s at best 3 years from now.

Well, generally the most interesting part of the Pelicans season is the offseason, especially when they start out the year 6-23

All the former players in the L, all the former players that went on to work in front offices, and all of a sudden now he wants to coach in the nba? Hard to believe

I really could see it happen. He’s at that point to just do it for 4/5 years and call it quits.
