73 is a factor why Coach K could consider a change. It's 2020 and there's a ton of continued uncertainty around NCAA sports that it's not impossible that basketball gets bumped and loses another championship season.

If he was 53 or 63 then he could wait it out but he's at the end and has already lost a championshionship run to covid-19 and could lose another run, so why not at least consider the NBA where you've got a better chance to at least coach when the clock is ticking louder than ever?

I don't think this is likely but I do think the stars are at least aligned to be something worth considering.

Coach K is not the solution to our problems(people should look up the BBALLBREAKDOWN videos regarding Zion and see how poorly Coach K schemed for him) and he is certainly not the type of person that at 73, as basically the Duke god, is going to come in and be a loyal servant to the GM who even notoriously laid back Alvin Gentry said our front office was essentially too involved and micromanaging.

One has to remember or be enlightened to, Coach K has not been terribly happy with the NCAA governing body refusing to progress with the times, insofar as allowing a star athlete or any collegiate athlete to financially capitalize on their image, within certain parameters and guidelines.

Also, he feels the NCAA has no plan and has not done a good job of economically incentivizing, athletes, particularly basketball players, to forgo entering the draft despite measures to give declarees an honest assessment of their draft stock and status.

Coach K has lemented for a little over 10 years to his former players, how he has not been able to teach his players to play elite team defense bc he has had to endure so much roster turnover with players, with the "disastrous" one and done rule.

And although he has had to adapt, having to spend sooo much time on recruiting these days has taken its toll. He has yearn to coach the same team, so to speak, for a while now. Been saying this covertly for years. Reason he flirted with the Lakers, years ago.

He has consistently stated that coaching Duke is no different than coaching a NBA team in a calendar year. In fact, his obligations are more, bc he fills idle time with numerous speaking engagements, school-related and privately.

All is quiet right now.... That tells me all I need to know.

And Coach K does not look nor is his physical activity like a normal 73 yr old person! Saw him 3 yrs ago and you would think 62, MAX. Had more pep than majority at the event.

Dude is good for another 4-5 yrs. Thats championship window time. Those putting it at 3/4 years from now are not realizing how much things change from yr. to yr. in sports. Nothing is guaranteed. Win early and win often is what the best teach.

What I can tell u is that a succession plan would be in place. And thats just knowing the myth of the man. Nothing is chanced by Coach K. Tried and Blue.

I did not take time out from my life to troll people on a forum.
Always liked TD, the Pels forum in particular.
Not saying I know a few things, but, I know a few things.

Had privy to alot, over the years, bc of playing basketball and knowing a few, relevant people who thrive in the game, in many respects.

Ive done well for myself as well. This rumor has legs. Believe that.

“Insider” huh? ..... welcome to the fricking show! Be ready, if K hasn’t been hired by lunch time today people will call for your head. That being said.... I don’t believe coach K would make that jump. Why would he? He’s still drawing a check at Duke and he gets to jump in and do whatever side projects he wants in the basketball world. At 73 I don’t see him wanting to start a new challenge. However, I hope I’m wrong. It would be cool to see and I think we would become a front runner on that second tier free agent for once.

I cannot see a 73 year old DUKE GOD jumping to take on NBA travel and a mediocre team...He has had golden opportunities before to make the NBA his.

Now if you told me that K was being consulted about the position and who to hire I'd believe it.

Coach K also has the back issues. He wouldn’t want the NBA travel grind.

Would love it because K was at West Point and would rightly demand that every Pelican stand proudly and respectfully with hand over heart, swaying back and forth gently and reverently during the playing of our beautiful national anthem

Actually Coach K would let the individual choose what he wanted to do, in a respectful manner, if the reason was based upon a sincere belief.

He is 73 and is the highest paid college basketball coach at nearly $10 million a year between base and bonuses. That would almost put him in line with Doc and Pop as the highest paid NBA coaches. Not gonna happen.
