Since this thread is shite, and it's at least tangentially related in the context of "clueless" ownership, I give you the single greatest exchange between a true "clueless" owner and frankly anyone, possibly ever. Which happened during a deposition in 2003. From the one and only Donald Sterling:

Tom Benson didn't turn the Saints into Superbowl champs, Sean Payton and Drew Brees did. All Gayle has to do is hire the right people. It's the organization's MO to hire people and let them do their job, and they are at least attempting to interview high level candidates.

All of these candidates will make a pitch on how they want to run a team and what they expect the Benson empire to do to support them. Whoever makes the best case for themselves will get the job. This isn't rocket science and she has some very seasoned sports professionals advising her.

Will they make the right choice? Who knows. Nobody thought Thibs would flame out in Minny after not being able to get anyone to play defense. All you can really ask for is that they go through a good and thorough evaluation process.

wow I hope the national media drags him for this. If someone said this shite about Jeanie Buss the streets would be on fire.

But knowing the media they won't say a peep.

Yeah, I’d imagine it wouldn’t go over well to say Jeanne’s qualifications are being born a Buss and fricking Phil Jackson.

Maybe she was a "gold digger" but who cares at this point one way or the other? Even if true it doesn't preclude her from being a good owner and wanting her teams to be successful.

you should realize "gold digger" is the OP's words and not Simmons

Dude correctly called Tatum being better than Fultz.
Dude correctly predicted The Celtics would enter the Kyrie sweepstakes and had the best package for him.
Correctly said last years Raps weren’t shite, despite them winning 59 games last year
You do realize that all of that is because he is a Celtics' fan, don't you? He swooned over the Celtics pick of James Young in 2014 as well as such a great pick and great player.

Also, I wanted to bring up Russilo thoughts on AD which makes a lot of sense to me. He said and I kinda agree with is that even tho AD is looking like a diva and difficult to work with, I think he’s more impressionable and sheltered. I think he’s a good dude and honestly wants to be liked however he’s gotten influenced by Lebron and co. to be something he’s not. Now, he looks worse than he thought it would. He’s apologizing to Gayle and trying to save his image and because he doesn’t know how to deal with it which is making it worse.

Makes sense, given the impressions of him by people who have worked with him.

The one that sticks out is the player breaking down film with him who said AD was doing a Spongebob coloring book at the time, making him come off as a naive manchild.

So not being impressed by the Raps who lead the East In wins has what to do with the Celtics?

I too have been a fan of Simmons for probably 8-10 years, and I too feel like I have a grasp on his commentary - when he’s joking and what topics / conversations are maybe more in his wheel house than others.
Definitely a talented guy, who can push the limits of professionalism. Sure, it can maybe hurt his credibility at times, but it’s what makes him entertaining, and he has certainly cultivated many impactful relationships in sports.

I think it’s worth mentioning that it’s not like he wrote a piece about Gayle, accusing her of anything. He was talking candidly about the pels situation on his podcast.
When it comes to conversation like this, just take Simmons for what he’s worth. Anybody in the national media trying to tell me the nuanced ins and outs of our local team, after a “deep dive” on the issues, I will take with a grain of salt.

It’s easy to look at the ownership situation from an outsiders perspective and think Gayle had some bad intentions. It’s easy to play that angle, but I think the consensus around here is that could be the furthest from the truth.

I’ll always be a fan of Bill, but I’ll write off his commentary on this as uninformed and possibly inappropriate, but also unimportant.
