i'm totally fine with building a front office year 1, establish an identity and a path forward and then give yourself more time and flexibility in scouting what willie is or isn't and what type of head coach would be the best fit this time next year.

I don't care about the coach at all. I'm fine with keeping Green another year. This season wasn't his fault. It's the players, all of them, especially Zion. We should be flipping 80-90%, starting with Zion. It's a players league. I can't take watching a "star" that isn't bought in. He's making 40M a year now. No one would blame us for dumping him at this point. He has no more support around the league. Why keep this going?

Funny you use the Seinfeld gif, because Dumars seems to be a show about nothing.

So that is what you got from his comment? You are consistently ridiculous in your takes.

It's a shame when I can be ridiculous and right at the same time.

Except that you are not (as usual) except in your own twisted mind. No executive is going to get into legal details of a player. Yet, you spin it to attempt to push your own agenda.

Literally your job. It doesn't stop GMs from doing it a lot with most other franchises.

It only seems to not be done here

That quote read to me basically "it doesn't matter how I assess Willie as I've got to move forward with him regardless."

A couple thoughts:

ZION
We were told that there was a mandate to trade Zion. Dumars denied it at the press conference and many called him a liar. Dumars sent Zion to the lottery and many said that was to make it look like we're keeping Zion, but we only want to do that to increase his trade value. Now, Dumars seems pretty believable that he's keeping Zion. I'll take Dumars at his word and question all the reports of the mandate to trade Zion.

WILLIE
I don't really care that Dumars is keeping Willie. Remember, Dumars fired Rick Carlisle after the 2002-2003 season - in which Carlisle's Pistons won 50 games and made it to the Eastern Conference Finals. Dumars isn't afraid to fire a coach he doesn't think is doing the job. Its not like this squad is going to contend next year. I see this upcoming season as a rebuilding year and we'll likely fire Willie at the end of the season.

Having Lunch and Dinner with Zion and deeming him worthy to lead our franchise into a 7th year down the toilet is a bold strategy. Dude was 100% on his best behavior, just so he could get another plate.

Willy is here to stay. That’s very disappointing.

I still don’t understand how Dumars can say he can’t properly evaluate willy right now and has to wait and see how he does.

We have several seasons worth of evidence that he’s the worst coach in the NBA, but let’s not look at that and put our head in the sand.

The Willie part read to me like he was forced to keep him for this season and he gave a PR answer . The same talk was said about Gentry.

I can see being patient with Z - don't have much of a choice. Willie? i dont see why he's able to stick around. Known product at this point. More to it behind the scenes for sure.

Has everyone forgotten that the actual reason that Griff was let go was that he wanted to fire Willie Green, and ownership wouldn't let him?

Why is everyone here acting surprised that Dumars is spinning some obvious BS as to why he isn't firing Willie? Y'all thought that he would actually say, "Well, I wanted to fire him, but Gayle doesn't want me to do that." Really?

Because people believe he is being 100% truthful because he is less verbose than Griffin.

There was also a supposed mandate to get rid of Zion. That doesn’t look to be happening

This one quote right here almost depresses me as much as keeping Green does. Both sap any amount of hope I had. And with the decision to retain Green, I'm done paying for season tickets..
