They are talking about the Lakers trading their 2027 and 2029 picks. That's all the Lakers can trade right now.

That seems like too far out to be involved in a plan for an NBA GM considering the turnover in NBA front offices.

Other teams know the Lakers are desperate and are demanding both picks unprotected for just ok players in return. It's highway robbery because these are likely top 10 picks because they are that far out. LeBron is going to leave the Lakers in shambles when he finally moves on, especially if he convinces them to trade both of these picks for a middling return like Myles Turner and Buddy. So whoever has those picks will have a pretty strong future asset, like the Celtics did with the unprotected picks they got from Brooklyn and turned into Jayson Tatum and trading for Kyrie.
