I have never understood the Dead being held in such high esteem; in my opinion, they are terrible.

Hard to beat these military bands making a comeback under Trump. Give me the band last night playing with the fireworks

Your post made my mind jump to Toy & Tommy Caldwell of the Marshall Tucker Band. Both enlisted in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam era; Toy was wounded in combat and again returned to action afterwards.

That's the first band that came to mind. Los Lobos was the next one since they pretty much cover all the genres of American music.

I mean, that’s the grateful dead

folk
blues
bluegrass
ragtime
rock and roll
jazz
disco
country and western
etc

there is no quintessentially American music that was not a part of Grateful Dead music with the possible exception of funk because, well, that ain’t possible for a bunch of white stoners

It was refreshing to listen to normal people who are non stars singing and rocking out on stage last night. The two women had great voices and so did the young man. The guitarist killed it. Unlike some people, I enjoyed listening to their choices of songs.

It was a superb choice of songs that took me back to my middle school through college years. It reminded me of really good times for myself and our country.
