Solid List IMO

Kurt being #1 is stupid

What’s your favorites?

List should be named 40 Greatest Songwriters/Performers.
Or, in truth, Top 40 my favorite music acts.
There are a great many on that list that are in no way near the top of great musicians.

Is it though?
Public Enemy #2?
Sinead and Madonna ahead of Prince?
Outkast and the Foo Fighters ahead of Pearl Jam?
Killer Mike in the teens (ahead of Bowie, fair dinkum, "over the last 40 years" Bowie, but still, Trent Reznor and Metallica)?

These kinds of list are always ridiculous. I just so happened to appreciate at least 6 or 7. Seems ok to me.
So who would you replace/add
Tons I would replace but for me it would take a lot of thought cuz in the last 40 years actually I don’t think I could even break it down to 40 musicians. So many Great ones
It’s just a list
I didn’t make it
Calm Down

OK, I despise Springsteen as much as the next logical person, but anyone that puts Dave Grohl, Run DMC, A Tribe Called Quest, Buddy Guy, 2Pac, Prince, Tracy Chapman, Killer Mike, Nirvana and Melencamp ahead of him is on acid.

The best thing Kurt Cobain did for his musical legacy was die.
I like him and I like Nirvana. But he is so overrated, as are most musicians/athletes/actors who die young. You only see them at their best and don't see them decline.
He was the third best guitarist in Nirvana and the second best singer. When the drummer is a better guitarist and singer than you, then perhaps you are not that great.
And why is he listed individually, but other even greater musicians are not and are just lumped in with their bands?

Agree with the insanity of those other bands ranked as high as they are, but this completely logical person that always liked the Boss has to disagree with that other particular sentiment of yours. But to each his own.

Foo Fighters bore me and Dave Grohl is a fake. Kanye, Dr. Dre, and Jay Z should be in over some of those rap entries if we are calling them musicians. R.E.M., Husker Du, The Smiths, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pixies, Blur/Damon Albarn, Arcade Fire, Spoon, White Stripes, Guns and Roses, Alice in Chains, New Order, Echo and the Bunnymen, Stone Roses...hell, put Jeff Buckley in if the amount of albums doesn't count (Amy Winehouse and Tracy Chapman).

LOL... Do these writers get some kind of award for the most outlandish list of the year?
Cobain is the greatest magician of the last 40 years?

Whoever made that list should kill themselves like Cobain.

No Eddie Van Halen?
No Stevie Ray?
List discredited itself in a hurry.

You need to drop Prince from your complaint list.
Springsteen ain't even a pimple on Prince's arse in regard to pure musical talent.

Van Halen was my first thought but that would only be 5150 and after when he was insisting on using all the synthesizers so no. Stevie Ray is a definite yes though. 40 years cuts off a lot of good stuff like Talking Heads and Elvis Costello. They were still putting out albums but their best work was behind them. 1986 was really a changing of the guard in popular music.

Lists like these put out by the media are intentionally terrible to create dissension and make people say, "LOOK AT THIS IDIOTIC LIST RABBLERABBLERABBLE." If we'd all quit talking about them, they'd eventually do us all a favor and quit making them.
