Do any of you like this shite lol? I’m sitting at wing stop and they have some sort of generic screaming band playing, making my ears bleed. Back in the day my friends were really big into screaming punk sounding bands but my musical taste diverged. I guess if used very very sparingly and for a specific reason I could be ok worth it, but the bands that scream in every song? Not for me.

None of it. It's the reason I cannot appreciate Soundgarden.

Not all screaming is the same.

Phil Anselmo will scream and eat your fricking soul.

Some of these teen punk bands will eat your arse.

Yup.

I like some. Don’t like most.

I like it when Maynard or Reznor screams. I don’t like growling or emo screams.

Love screaming, especially bands like underoath, as I lay dying and unearth to name a few.

Yep. And Mikael Åkerfeldt is the GOAT with Devin Townsend a close second. Phil's performance on the first DOWN album is another favorite.

Love screaming! Real talent, distorting your voice. Especially at the intense level of CJ! LINK(Vocalist in this band)

If you can scream in key and don’t overuse it’s awesome.

Cookie Monster vocals. Not so much.

In my opinion, a little goes a long way. A scream is like an exclamation point. If you put one on every sentence, it loses its meaning. Think of screaming lyrics as TEXT IN ALL CAPS! IF EVERY BIT OF TEXT IS IN ALL CAPS IT JUST STARTS TO LOOK COMPLETELY STUPID AND MEANINGLESS BECAUSE ALL CAPS SHOULD BE USED TO SHOW EMPHASIS!!!!!

That's why I don't like bands that scream everything, and when I say screaming, I don't mean like regular Rise Against or Chris Cornell lyrics, I mean Job for a Cowboy pig sounds like "bree bree bree" and Necrogoblicon screeching. It's not musical, and it's not pleasing to the ear. However, when screams are used sparingly, it can be a nice addition to a song.

I like Soundgarden but I get it. Cornell did a lot less screaming on the studio albums than he did live. I didn't enjoy them live at all because it was all screaming. He had a great voice so I can't understand why he chose to ruin it.

I honestly have to flip those. Devin is a generally more talented vocalist than Mikael, which isn't an insult. Devin is up in the Maynard/Patton pantheon.

Seriously:

The Death of Music

That starts with some of Devin's really open vocals and ends with some of the most impressive and controlled screams you'll ever hear. This after around 2 hours of singing with a major cold.

I love it when Bob Weir screams, especially during Estimated Prophet.

Oh, I agree as far as all around vocals are concerned. It’s just Mikael’s screams are so haunting that he surpasses Devin there for me. Devin has way more range and agility with both his clean and harsh vocals. Devin can also still scream and Mikael is not near his peak of screaming. Mikael’s screams around the Deliverance era are still the top for me.

Bruh have you ever heard of Symphonic Metal?

Ghost Love Score - Nightwish
Nemo - Nightwish
I Wish I Had an Angel - Nightwish
The Phantom Agony - Epica
The Essence of Silence - Epica
Victims of Contingency - Epica
March of Mephisto - Kamelot
The Howling - Within Temptation
Our Solemn Hour - Within Temptation

Most have screams in them.

Amaranthe, A band who has three vocalists in it sounds amazing.

Most this hipster jive that gets past around in this board is what I call meh.
