Black is their best album so Black.

I could never hear Enter Sandman again and be okay, but it's still Black album
Through the Never, Holier than Thou, Of Wolf and Man, God That Failed, Sad but True, etc...
Kill Em All is super raw but I only like a few songs from there - Hit The Lights, Four Hoursemen, Motorbreath, Jump in the Fire

quote:That's a pretty solid "would you rather". Today, I think I'm going to go with Kill 'em All. There are some good, more obscure tracks, like Phantom Lord.

I think they should add Four Horseman to the Sphere.

Black album is far and away their best album unless you have a lifelong struggle with cystic acne.

Completely depends on my mood.

Black but I still have it behind Puppets, Justice and Lightening.
From Kill Them All until Black they are all great in their own way and depends on my mood

This. The hot take of pretending TBA sucks and only 80s thrash rules is so lame. My Friend of Misery is still one of my favorite songs and I still contend if Hetfield had written a better chorus it would've been another massive hit from the album. The intro, verse, and second half are absolutely badass

I discovered Metallica in 9th grade in 1998 when Turn the Page was the big hit. Then I heard Until It Sleeps and Load was the first CD of theirs I ever bought. It's my favorite album ever and Hetfield's tone is still the best heavy rhythm tone I've ever heard.

Ride the Lightening is best

Without a doubt Kill them all! Black was when they went mainstream and lost their edge. Heck I remember the day it came out and being disappointed.

All of this is true. Nickelbots will downvote me and you, but we know what's up.

In a rare moment, I agree with every word of dallas55's post.

Kill 'Em All. Hands down.

I like both but vote for the Black album.
Kill 'Em All is more raw and angry, but it suffers a bit from production quality and some of the songs are average.

It's like two different bands. Kill Em All was extremely raw and they weren't quite the songwriters they would become yet. But if you're into heavy metal, then that might be your favorite.
Black Album may sound more accessible and polished, but the songwriting varies more and was great...Sad But True, Unforgiven, Nothing Else Matters, Wherever I May Roam, etc. Great songwriting and better overall album to me due to that.
