Snyder’s going around talking about his longer R rated cut. Why didn't they just give us that version?
quote:

“In this case I almost think the director’s cut of Rebel Moon is an alternative reality version,” Snyder says. “It’s not an extended cut of this movie, it’s almost like a different movie….The reason for that is that it’s such a philosophical thing to shoot a director’s cut of a movie before you finish this version.”

If only Zack Snyder knew that, then he could be James Gunn.

Joanna Wick and her space pals. What a terrible collection of random action scenes. I’m interested to see one of these Snyder defenders explain how it’s actually Oscar worthy.

So is is even worth the watch? There seems to be a great divide between people who either hate Snyder and ones who love him. Not much in between. I’m just looking to be entertained.

I watched it. It was kind of like space Conan. Just wandering around picking up pals, but really long and they didn’t complete a mission. Needed more fighting. I liked it better than the force awakens and thought it was less of a rip off than that was (bad version of a new hope).

Snyder is good at "images". That's it. He should never be allowed to write his own material.

300 was thrilling at the time, maybe a bit corny now, but overall a well received effort.

Dawn of the Dead I watched before I knew who "Zac Snyder" was and loved that.

And I think Watchmen is as about as good as it gets.

Then I watch Sucker Punch. Then I'm let down by Man of Steel (mostly the ending).

So I don't hate him, and always have hope he's going to put in a Watchmen type effort. Unfortunately, it's hit or miss.

what's funny is that Snyder is pretty darn liberal, he's just not an a-hole, nor does he get into politics or pretend to be smarter than his audience.

SnyderCut did a way better justice to Gal Gadot AND Ray Fisher. I thought Fisher was just cashing in on modern race sensitives and bitching, but after watching the SnyderCut, you realized his important scenes were really hacked to death.

Then when you realize that Wheedon was indeed a liberal a-hole who preyed on women while loudly parroting all the popular progressive talking points, you get why the media was pretty quiet about his cancelling and doesn't like Snyder.

He's nowhere near a "beloved" director to me, but he makes fun dumb pretty action movies directed at me and seems like a decent dude.

This is pretty spot on to me.

I'll add, this movie was actually a very fun watch for me. Action at almost every corner. The only thing lacking was character development, this movie could have been made into 2 films.

This movie is bad. It’s basically the Ants and the Grasshopper story. So stupid. And we got a badass woman in the lead.

Again.

This isn’t quite Battlefield Earth bad, but it’s damn close so far.

Oh man, now we have a giant bird whisperin Indian dude. SMH. Even though it’s CGI, the bronco bird looks like a cat with a fake beak on.

This guy should definitely be the director for a Six Million Dollar Man remake.

Now we got Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon badass with light sabers and also a giant borg lady spider. Wow.

Ok, we’re in some sci fi universe, but the lead bad guy is dressed like he came from Utah to tell you about Jesus’ adventures in America.

Started off very strong and then went to very weak. Felt like an essay assignment with a ton of thought in the first pages and then a kid wrapping up the rest the night before it was due.

10 minutes in. The villager (Gunner) who got the father killed by saying they had a surplus might be the worst actor I’ve ever seen, my god

Edit: ok 40 minutes in and I’m done. This is the worst movie I’ve watched in a long time Awful acting, corny story, and looked worse than a CW show. I was literally laughing at the acting.

I’m saying this as a Snyder fan and someone who wasn’t buying the terrible news. Never would have dreamed it would have been this bad.

I gave it a shot tonight. People saying it’s the worst movie ever seen and turning it off after 10 minutes are fricking morons and obviously don’t like Snyder. Was it great? No, but I’m willing to give it a shot as it has my attention. It had its moments and it its hit or misses at times. Not like anything else coming out post 2019 has been hands down fantastic. Not any worse than recent Star Wars. frick Disney btw

Synder movie is always gorgeous to look like, every scene is almost like a painting. That said, it was perfectly serviceable. I like it better than the Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker for sure.

People saying it's better than any star wars movies are high. The last 3 star wars movies were awful....but this garbage is barley watchable. It's like Gal Gadot, pretty to look at till it opens it mouth.

This is hilarious if you’re correct considering the only context I’ve ever heard that word is in reference to an erection

Just finished the movie. It’s really hard to watch and not think he’s creating his own Star Wars. Makes complete sense reading earlier in the thread that he pitched it to Disney.

I’m down to watch the next one because the last 30 minutes or so made me somewhat curious to what happens going forward, but if it wasn’t for the end I’d be done with it and any future iterations.

I am so glad Snyder was not given a Star Wars trilogy. If this was even remotely close to the pitch he gave Disney, they surprisingly had the sense to reject it.

The plot (spoilers) is easy enough to follow: Space Nazis terrorize a community of simple farmers. The farmers' best fighter(s) spend most of movie recruiting an eclectic team of specialized warriors/mercenaries/rebels from across the galaxy to help defend their community. After a team member betrays them, the rebels seemingly defeat the Space Nazis on an off-farm location. The rebels return to the idyllic farm. Sequel/Part Two set-up: the Space Nazi leader is not really dead.

The plot is not the problem. The aesthetics of the movie are a hodge-podge mess, borrowing from every action/fantasy/sci-fi movie. One moment it looks like 300/Gladiator, then Inglorious Basterds, then Hunger Games, then Hydra from Captain America First Avenger, the LOTR, then Solo, etc. The slo-mo action/choreography/pacing is boring & non-unique and it doesn't work for a Star Wars-intended movie. The spaceships, costumes, weapons, aliens, creatures, locations, & CGI are all forgettable. As someone said, it watchable, but not rewatchable.
