No it's an important distinction.

For instance, Grosse Pointe Blank may make my top 5 favorite movies, but it would never come close to a top 100 best films.

And, for the opposite, Stalker would definitely make my top 5 films, but I really don't think it has a chance for being a favorite watch. It's a difficult watch.

Your personal top 5 films of all time

Very tough to pin down, as this list changes over time. Reasons for liking a film are, as stated, personal. Might not be for the reasons others may view a film, but I'll give it a shot. ( no real order, of course)

Jurassic Park.
Caddy Shack
Patton
Excalibur
LOTR (trilogy)

I know I can easily come up with several more TOP 5's if I need to, but this is my 'right now' list.

I tried to pick one from different genres

Western: Unforgiven
Science Fiction: Ex Machina
Action: T2
Drama: The Godfather
Comedy: Dr Strangelove

I dunno how consistent I would be if you asked me for a top five a month or a year from now

My list is currently at 16 and I haven't even gone through physical media yet to think about it. I'm going to post favorite and not best, and I won't cheat by including trilogies as one movie

I think I"m going to be genre-focused to to help with the editing

Action-Adventure
Horror
Comedy
Drama
Sci Fi/Fantasy

Since its personal, just have to go with what I think I've watched the most in my lifetime from childhood to adulthood. Mostly childhood because that's when we watch the most, thank you child labor laws....we have the free time to rewatch to our heats content.

Empire Strikes Back (owning it on VHS was something special in the 80s)

Lawrence of Arabia (awed by my first Letterbox Edition, watching in the dark)

Airplane (VHS, played on a loop growing up)

Shawshank in the 90s (Since TNT had it on every Saturday)

Fast Times at Ridgemont High (you know how you used to have to tighten up VHS Tapes by winding them with a nickel because certain scenes would get fuzzy like a worn out Cassette? Thanks Phoebe.)
