The movie will make a bajillion dollars.

We will gather together here and complain of race swaps (as we should) and poor sound editing.

That makes the statement I made valid and appropriate.

Also he's basing the entire statement on dating app data, wheras 70-90% of adults don't use dating apps. 60-70% of adults have never used one.

It was a bonkers racist thing to say on a fundamental level.

And this is ME talking. I am not exactly captain race-baiter. Not wanting a black Helen of Troy is silly to me, but not necessarily racist.

What he said is baseline racist, and that is gross. Not sure why so many are running defense for him.

fair skin was the signifier of sun avoidance

White armed, there's debate. Could it mean her arms were white? Maybe, but that wouldn't make sense as her fair skin was already mentioned.

It was also used in Persian and Egyptian societies to show lack of work, as the sleeves of her robes remain white.

I fall back on, as she's a minor a character in this tale, is her being white important to the story?

Something that is irrelevant if you're sub-Saharan black.

Is her being black important for some reason? Because they went out of their way to do it.

Just admit it. It's more political pandering bullshite.

as well as to the story, and this conversation.

no.

And that is the entire point.

People are in their feels over a minor character, almost certainly fictional, that even Homer didn't care much about.

I am right there with people, when they race swap established characters, and actual historical people.

But Helen has only one necessary trait that is important to the story: is Hot

My contention is Lupita is very pretty, but she isn't hot. Her being black or Mediterranean doesn't matter to the story at all.

Just like Ulysses not having curly hair or massive thighs changes nothing story-wise

That's what Nolan wanted. I guess sometimes they think controversy will drum up business or something. Maybe it will.

Lolol you are dug in hard on such a pathetic position it’s hilarious. Just walk to the mirror, look yourself in the eye, and say “I’m being pathetic and gay” and then course correct.

If it wasn’t abundantly clear after my initial comment, the various follow ups made it undeniably clear it was hyperbole with reference to you “looking it up” - which you clearly did haha. You can use dating apps evidence, BLACK MENS own words, your eyes, etc

Take the L loser

Maybe. But my theory is Christopher Nolen thinks Lupita is exotically attractive and wanted something unique, rather than a younger version of Diane Kruger from Troy.

I get that. Finding a hotter actress than 2004 Diane Kruger is a fool's game. And what actress would want that comparison?

It was a factual statement in the literal sense. Meaning it was a statement of objective fact, not one of opinion. It is either true or not. "Racist" has nothing to do with it.

Either, en masse, black women have a lower favorability rating in regards to attractiveness or they dont. You can try to argue that point, factually.

But by claiming its racist, you are either saying
A) If something is true, but "racist", it must not be acknowledged
B) Something cant be true, if its racist.

Both are insane, but even more so option A is incredible, because it both justifies the core principles of "racism" while also disparaging it. "Sure X is worst than Y, but you are wrong for knowing that"

Its an odd worldview to stand on.

Dude theres no such thing as objectively more attractive.

Attraction changes based on cultural norms.

Fat women used to be considered more attractive, because attractiveness is purely subjective.

My theory is that he's trying to get a sample of that dark chocolate. She's alright, but not Helen hot. She's not particularly unique and exotic either. There's at least three or four other hot black chicks I would cast before Lupita.

You were unable to understand which part of the statement is objective.

Is "more attractive" objective? ill conceded no. And never argued otherwise.

But thats not the objective part of the statement. The objective part is that "most people would rank them lower"

Survey results are objective data points about subjective positions.

"Most people prefer vanilla ice cream" is an objectively measurable statement. Even though taste preferences are subjective.

Helen of Troy is a fictional character from the Iliad and the Odyssey; she wasn't real. This isn't like when they try to claim Cleopatra was black... she really existed.

I'm not saying it's okay (as it doesn't make sense in the context of the story as Helen, if she had been different in that particular way I cannot imagine that a writer would leave that part out), but this is the wrong argument to make as she's not historical in any way.
