So beautiful they even invented a twin for the movie so we could enjoy two of them.

So? Probably still a fictional character.

You could describe King Arthur, even from the source material.

Still doesn't mean he existed.

But the point of her character is primarily her physical traits. Defines her and drives parts of the story.

Take the hump off Quasimoto's back, make Richard III a fit athlete, give Ahab two legs and no scars, etc.

Helen is a very minor character in The Odyssey. I don't like the casting either but she is going to be a minor part in the movie.

The actress is playing multiple roles. They’re expanding her exposure by creating a twin for Helen.

Can you imagine the outrage if Sidney Sweeney played an African princess in Wakanda.

Only her beauty

Her color is irrelevant to the story

If I am wrong, which I always allow for, I would love to hear how.

Homer didn't find her important enough to describe in any detail, or even to provide her a personality, agency, or motivations.

We just know she is apparently hot enough to go to war over

We are given what? 3 vague characteristics (one of which we aren't sure what it meant, and was probably some kind of slang), and that is it

But if you alter any of those characteristics, it does nothing to change the story.

Mad about Helen for not being from the right place. . .but far less so for Matt Damon and the rest.

Damon is as Greek as Lupita, I'd wager.

Now there is another famously beautiful woman that is a MAJOR character in The Odyssey.

Penelope, played by Anne Hathaway, also without a drop of Greek blood

In fact, here is the ONLY ACTOR WITH GREEK ANCESTRY in the movie.

Plays an unnamed supporting role

Its tragic that its not Greek heavy. I love mythology so I'll watch, just not in the theater.

I think it’s disingenuous to compare casting a Kenyan as a Greek character with fair hair, fair skin, and white arms (said by Homer, I believe) and compared to Artemis - and a white dude as a Greek. And one is a character just defined by physical traits.

I, too, wish more actual Greek actors were cast and don’t like many of these casting choices, including Damon.

Incorrect. She's described as being 'fair skinned/white armed.' This is also an indication of her social status. Casting a midnight black chick is in no way an interpretation of this.

fair hair, fair skin
sure, but are they important to the character? Show your work.

white arms
white of arm is the phrase generally assumed to be a sort of slang that has been lost. Because it makes no sense in context.

and compared to Artemis
in beauty, not appearance.

Her being black is bad, because it is different from Homer's description, right?

Shall we look at Homer's description of Ulysses:

Greek

possessing massive thighs, curly hyacinth-like hair, and a deep, sun-bronzed complexion.

His skin is darkened by a "bronze tan" from a lifetime of exposure to the sun and sea. When at ease, his features present a pleasant, cheerful, and friendly manner. He is also described as having bushy, curly hair that hangs down thick over his forehead

Sounds exactly like Matt Damon.

I am applying consistency. You guys just want to fuss because black.
