The Boys” created a “Christian” character seemingly for the purpose of insulting the entire religion in one season of the show. That’s a notable one, but you’re being very disingenuous on purpose.

They also created a woman that is the representation of AOC and made her a bad guy.

Using The Boys as an example when they shite all over everyone is a poor one at best.

When TD first started, I’d say a good 75% of the board was non religious and regularly made fun of Christians, especially on the OT

What a complete 180 this board did when Trump was elected.

Lol...so would you like to compare the "fair" treatment of Christianity in shows vs the shows which are blatantly on the attack?

Now change the word Christian here and change it to black, gay, Muslim, woman.

No doubt there are some, plenty even, of examples of unfair bashing of Christians in popular entertainment (though you have yet to give an example). Simply pointing to examples where a Christian is the “bad guy” without any context is no different than leftist complaints in the opposite direction.

I think that is fair to say, but they put themselves out there as christian’s

but also, most christian bad guys in movies and shows aren’t very christian either

remember some people aren’t mad at how they’re acting, they’re just mad that how they act makes them a villain.

Notice how the majority of posters who agree with OP, and even OP himself, started posting post 2016. I can’t tell you how many religious threads were on the OT just to troll Christians

The Boys reminded me of South Park because no one is off limits. Funny that no one cares when South Park shite all over the Mormons. If "Christians" had thick skin like the Mormons the world would be a better place.

It fulfills the persecution fetish in which many Christians revel.

Because the left runs most of entertainment and the internet and they despise christians. They despise all religion, but wont say anything about islam or judaism.

Most Americans are Christians, left and right. Don't be dumb.

We pull inspiration for stories from things that resonate in our culture, or things with which we are all very familiar. The majority of Americans are very familiar with Christianity. Many of us interact with it, either directly or indirectly, on a frequent basis. American Christianity is unfortunately filled with swindlers, pedophilia, general corruption, and hypocrisy. Those are the things generally "attacked", not the actual beliefs (though I'm sure there are exceptions, not that op provided any specific examples).

So from your article (that sounds like it’s from 2016):

quote:

Outside the Hollywood mainstream, The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day (2009) includes a rosary-brandishing killer who sees his deadly work as service to God.

This is just silly. Truly.

quote:

Going further back, an early scene in Road to Perdition (2002) introduces Tom Hanks’ Irish Catholic hitman packing a rosary and an automatic.

He was part of the Irish mob. Are we pretending the Irish mob didn’t exist or something? And honestly, despite being a HITMAN, they actually portray Tom Hanks as a “hero”. So, another absurd criticism.

quote:

Few if any Hollywood films in the last twenty years or more have managed more anti-Catholic punch than Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007). “Every Catholic in England is a potential assassin,” we are told; a Jesuit priest is an actual assassin; and the villain is a manically devout, rosary-clutching, prayer-muttering, cross-bedecked Philip II of Spain.

I hate to break it to the author but um, the Pope declared Elizabeth I a heretic and encouraged Catholics to kill her. That’s an actual, historical, thing.

There’s literally a Broadway play that’s shits hard on Mormons and there are countless examples of Jewish stereotypes in shows and movies. The reason there’s so many shows and movies that also shite on Christians is because they’re a majority and many of the writers grew up in Christian houses so that’s what they fall on. This thread is just another example of people having thin skin and not being able to take criticism or understand satire

Every single time Christianity is mentioned in any show you can think of, it is always in a sarcastic, condescending manner... the worst possible stereotype is highlighted when "Christians" are portrayed on TV...why is that?

I love when folk mention Crusades as a "gotcha" type moment lol...let's try to keep the activities to the last 1000 years or so, shall we?

Thats because most of the time the "attacks" on Christianity are comedic in nature and mature adults that are secure in their beliefs can laugh at themselves. And obviously not all Christians think the same.

I don't see a lot of mainstream "comedic" attacks on Muslims or trans people or the like.

I'm not advocating we jihad over sitcom jabs, but nonetheless I think our willingness to be mocked without recourse is part of why we're lower hanging fruit.

Googled examples of "anti-Christian TV shows."

Articles listed some streaming shows I've never heard of plus "Young Sheldon".

So it appears that Sheldon's quirky Christian Mom hurt your feelings.

I don’t think you’ll find a lot of Mormons whinging on a message board about being oppressed for being the butt of jokes.
