I saw Django Unchained in the theaters . 95% black crowd. Me and a few other whiteys.
Any time Samuel L Jackson dropped an n-bomb, the audience exploded with laughter. A minute later the crowd was still doing this:
And this
‘‘Twas glorious.
Felt like I earned an honorary doctorate in African studies that night.

Jurassic Park that I remember as an adult, I did see Empire Strikes Back as kid, that was crazy but was too young to really absorb the craziness.

Main one that sticks out to me was seeing Watchmen.
Two characters were talking about one supposed villain who was a masochist who wanted to be beaten up. One asks what happened to him and the other said “He tried it on Rorschach, who dropped him down an elevator shaft.”
For an otherwise quiet scene that got gut busting laughter from the crowd.

I think the biggest explosion of laughter that I've experienced was seeing Caddyshack in the theater. When they showed Carl "masturbating" as he watched the old ladies golfing, then the camera zooms out to show him cleaning a golf ball...
The audience was screaming at the screen in laughter.

Superman Returns - when Superman stops the plane from plummeting to Earth. All downhill from there.

When I was in high school in the 70s I went to the Claiborne Theatre on (you guessed it) Claiborne Ave. Enter The Dragon was showing and the theatre was full of black folks with me and my 2 friends the only white folks there. The fist thing that surprised me was that during the first fight scene, people started taking Polaroid flash pictures of the screen!
Then, about 20 minutes into the movie, Bruce Lee went through a door and left a room in one of the scenes. Some black guy yelled "Kung Fu gotta poo!", and the whole theatre started cracking up for like 2 minutes straight.

I went and saw American Sniper when it came out and at the end it just went quiet as they showed video of the funeral procession. Two old retired Marines stood and saluted the whole time. I still get chills thinking about that. No one in the theatre dared move

I missed the next 3-5 minutes of that movie because the theater was still losing its shite.

I agree with the Sixth Sense. You could hear the entire room gasp when the ring fell to the floor.
Another that stood out was the nurse station scene from Exorcist III. That took everyone by surprise and drew quite the audience reaction.

I was coming here to post this. I also was on a date. Only time I've nearly came out of my seat laughing in a theater.

One of my favorite crowd reactions was midnight premiere of Dark Knight...

Decades ago, in Denver we went to the second Star Wars movie at the only theater that had stereo sound.
In the big fight scene, the boulders started landing behind the audience and the whole sold out auditorium oooohhhhed at the same time.
Half an hour later the film broke. (Yes, that did happen) and there was a near riot. The popcorn guy came out and gave a scared "all is well" speech and talked about how tallented the camera guy was and he would get it going again. And he did.

Another vote for something about mary.
True story: When Warren first appeared (but nameless), a group of guys behind me were talking about how he reminded them of some guy they knew named Warren. So when character Warren turned around and the back of his jacket said Warren they all started dying for a good 2-3 minutes.
