The surprise reveal in The Crying Game.
Why was anyone surprised by this? No one could tell he was a damn man?

After we saw it, my wife said, “I thought there was supposed to be a big twist.” After I explained, she said, “We weren’t suppose to realize that from the start?”

Reaction to the end of the passion of the Christ. No one got out of their seats to leave after the movie ended

The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King

When Aragon tells Eowyn (basically) she can’t have him. He loves Arwen.

Of all the scenes in that movie, the place went freaking crazy for that scene.

The velociraptor bursting through the pipes in the original Jurassic Park nearly caused a full theater pants-shitting.

The Sixth Sense.

The wedding ring drops to the floor and rolls around for a bit. The whole theater gasped.

I went from “What’s the big deal? This movie isn’t that great.” to “OMG. How did I not see that coming? Best movie twist ever.”

Hope Floats.

One of my best friends had to walk out when they showed little Bernice crying in the talk show audience after her dad revealed he was having an affair on live TV. It hit her so hard because her parents had a rough divorce with cheating involved.

Team America

The uncontrollable outrageous non-stop laughter from everyone in the theater.

I didn’t have an audience reaction in the theater for this one only a random story.

A large-ish group of us went for the Friday night showing. And during the opening scene one of my buddies (who has no inside voice) says down the line of seats to one of our other buddies “That Mother frickers Dead!” It sounded like he shouted it.

It kind of puts it in your head that he may be dead when someone says that so it basically ruined the endings.

The group still says “That Mother frickers Dead!” Whenever one of us says something we weren’t supposed to lol.

I don't generally do opening weekends so I've probably missed out on a shite-ton of good reactions.

I did see Signs during the second weekend and the jump scares in that one got us pretty good. Distinctly remember a dude recoiling damn near over the back of his chair while screaming "OH frick!" at the hand under the pantry door.

Yeah the opening weekend you would always get your best reaction. The theater would be full and you would have a bunch of people really excited to see the movie.

Honestly though I couldn’t tell you the last time I saw something on opening night. I also have gotten to where I really like going to movies at weird times when no one else is there - like 11am on a Monday.

I watched Rosewood in the theaters in 1997. As the only white guy in the whole place, it was a huge mistake

Schindler's List. Four hours, not a word uttered, no one to my knowledge got up to get a snack or go to the restroom. When it ended, audience got up and left, no one spoke, at all. Eery....

A Quiet Place was deathly silent the entire time. It was a very unique experience.

Something about Mary… The scene where Matt Dillion is watching Cameron Diaz undress through the window, using binoculars…. He is about to see the money shot when he gets distracted… when he hurries to get a peep he sees the shriveled old lady instead… entire audience shared the antagonist’s surprise , disappointment and disgust.

I'll raise you.

USN base (NAF, Naval Air Facility) in Atsugi, Japan. Top Gun (the original) was released. A crowd full of sailors, packed theater. It was exactly what you'd expect out of sailors on a weekend when watching a movie that glorified Naval Aviators. Atsugi did a lot of carrier plane maintenance. It even overshadowed seeing Patton in the same theater. You would have sworn those bastards were teenage Swifties watching her latest release.
