re: What's the biggest audience reaction you've seen in a movie theater?

The crowd being somber at the end of Saving Private Ryan even though it was a great movie. It was like walking out of a funeral having lost someone close. No-one talked as we all walked out.

Similar experience: Nutty Professor (Eddy Murphy) in Jackson MS. We were visiting and had no idea we’d be the only white folks in a packed theater. It was a true cultural learning experience.

Saw Phantom Menace at a big theatre for a midnight opening. Oh my God. There are nerds and then there are people nerds make fun of. This crowd was the latter.
Was sitting next to a stranger in the packed theatre and he started having serious convulsions when the John Williams score blared and the big Star Wars logo crawled across the screen during the opening. I legit thought the guy was having a seizure and my mind started racing as to what you're supposed to do in that emergency situation to help them. I put my hands on him to hold him steady and he snapped out of it and looked at me like I was crazy. At that point I realized he wasn't having a seizure but was so excited that he started violently shaking.

Harry Potter Desth Hallows 2 when moma Weasley ended Belatrix got some good cheers
This one, before the movie they were posing in front of the movie screen with their wands and everything. I love Harry Potter but that was just too much for me.

Dumb and Dumber. I have never seen a theater just dying with laughter like I saw during that movie back then

Probably when I was overseas in Thailand and I saw Ace Ventura 2.
When he emerged naked from the fake Rhino the whole crowd went into a convulsions of laughter and disgust.

South Park for laughter. That was the most I've laughed and heard others laugh.
Jaws for people losing their shite.

On deployment at a movie theater on a Marine base in Japan. The movie: Eyes Wide Shut
Anytime you see a movie with 300 Marines in the audience it is wildly entertaining.
I saw “Barbarella” (pre-commie Jane Fonda) with about 100 other pussy-starved Marines at an outdoor theater in Quang Tri in 1969. The opening strip scene was both glorious and agonizing. They had the projectionist rewind the scene more than once.

My all time favorite was watching all the black people who went to see Aaliyah get up and leave halfway through Queen of the Damned when they actually realized what the movie actually was about

Something about Mary when they show the balls in the zipper scene. That was my best movie experience in general. I had a bunch of friends that worked at the theater and we were screening it. We had a couple coolers of beer, about 50 of us in the theater at 1 or 2 in the morning screening it.

One that stands out to me was when Rocky took down Drago in Rocky IV. The place was going crazy

Me and a buddy went to the old dollar cinema in Monroe on a Saturday night when the original “Scream” was playing. We were probably the only whites in audience. The black girl beside me just about jumped in my lap multiple times.

I remember hearing people audibly weeping when Rose lets go of Jack in Titanic. Just outright sobbing.

It wasn’t in the actual theater, but I saw Independence Day when it came out and when everyone was leaving the theater, the clouds and the moon looked SUPER like the spaceship bursting through…
At least like 50 people stopped and looked up pointing… it was crazy
