I’m attributing it to the fact that it was a book assigned in school. I hated most books we had to read in school with a couple exceptions; Martian Chronicles, Bridges of Toko-ri and Brave New World.

Not the best movie/giving book justice choice probably, but “The Outsiders” was pretty spot on. Read the book before seeing the movie and it was very similar to what I was anticipating.

The Maltese Falcon (1941), with Bogart as Sam Spade.

The movie is superior to the book. Outside of a couple of his books palahniuk is a hack.

You're probably right about the movie but the book was excellent.

Anyway, his subject matter is very odd, which means it's often hit or miss. Alot of his shite is garbage but alot of it is fantastic too.

My favorite is Diary but he's written lots of good books.

I can understand that. Why I had to read Johnny Tremain is still a mystery to me to this day. A Tale of Two Cities on the other hand was an amazing read.

Ok, seriously... I'd probably agree with the person who mentioned Fight Club, as best I can remember it.

Kid is watching this in school right now, he hates it.

The one year I taught ELA, the kids loved it. Some of the kids cried when we read the "stay gold" scene in class. The girls were so disappointed in Darry and Soda in the film. I explained to them that Swayze and Lowe were on the walls of every middle school girl back in the 80s.

By the same director as The outsiders (Coppola) but a different author (Grisham), here's one that was almost perfectly adapted from the book:

The Rainmaker

Also, an all-star cast:

Matt Damon
Jon Voight
Danny DeVito
Claire Danes
Danny Glover
Mickey Rourke
Mary Kay Place
Virginia Madsen
Roy Scheider
Dean Stockwell

Probably the best Grisham adaptation ever put on film. Much better and more faithful than The Firm, The Verdict, and the Pelican Brief.

How can you say this? They completely left out one of Scarlett's marriages and a few of her children.

Maybe the made for TV miniseries hit absolutely not Kubrick’s movie.

Not saying the Shonkng was bad but it was not faithful to the book

King hated the Kubrick movie because his script ideas were rejected. This film elevated the novel IMO

Road House stayed very true to the Camus play.

Changing King's inevitably bad ending and some other parts is doing it justice though. Film adaptations of King's work should never really be faithful. I can't think of one novel, other than maybe Salem's Lot, that doesn't have weird unnecessary parts. Short stories are another story.
