I wish I could say they were just "meh". In reality, I can't believe how bad they were.

Did people want Dany to be a good queen? I actually enjoyed her crazy coming out.

People wanted to see a logical end to her arc that wasn’t rushed or developed or resolved over the course of two or three episodes.

Agree with OP.
Could it have been better? Sure.
Was it as good as some of the other seasons? Maybe not.
Was it shorter than it should have been? Certainly.
Did it enrage fanboys? By all means.
Did I still enjoy the frick out of it then carry on with my life? Positively.

We wanted the prince that was promised. The prophecy. The sing of Ice and Fire. Jon fricking Snow to be King. ANYTHING else was a shite on the entire story.

Season 8 was shite coated shite with shite filling.

It had few good moments, but for the most part the writing was about as phoned in as possible.

Season 7 was entertaining enough, but the quality clearly dropped off from the first 6 seasons.

Deserves all of the criticism for several reasons

-the pace was so much different than the rest of the show which made it confusing and disjointed
-the hype that was built up behind the fanbase deserved true storytelling
-with the budget given to them to make the show (sets, locations, costumes, etc) looks so great it made the lack of content even worse

everyone (fans, actors, crew, etc) just deserved so much better

We spend all that time WAITING for the army of the dead to get to the wall and when they finally cross the battle us over quickly and all it took was a dagger to the leader?

Yep all that psychological buildup and then a nothing burger. Stephen King often had that problem as well.

Nah. You’ll get downvoted to oblivion (as will I), but it wasn’t that bad outside of a few obvious things. There were still tons of pretty great things in the last couple seasons. And honestly, if the very last scene goes differently (almost any differently at all) most people likely view the show in a much better light.

However. That being said, I also understand why people shite on the last couple seasons. It’s almost like even though I don’t fully agree with it…I get it.

GRRM sat on his lazy arse and didn’t finish the series. D&D and the writers room proved they had no idea what to do without that roadmap.

Season 7 was bad. Season 8 is the worst finale season of a series I have ever seen. It was unadulterated shite. Volumes have been written about why it was shite, so I won’t write another here other than to say that it is indefensibly shite.

I think my curiosity is just wondering what people wanted to see.

Well first, the battle with the White Walkers that had been discussed and foreshadowed since the very beginning was a big nothing burger. It always seemed to me that the only way they could have been defeated was for the Seven Kingdoms to unite against them. No way Arya should have been able to kill the Night King that way. It was such an anti climax.

Then how should it have happened? If you know 100% that it shouldn’t have happened the way it did, then how should it have happened? You have to have an idea.

Yes. Absolute trash other than the effects and music.

Pretty obvious chief. They lose the battle at the wall and fall back further down the kings road. Relying on one final stand led by Jamie and John. It's not rocket science, you just like crap TV.

How could he have been after killing Dany though? Regicide without punishment could not have been permitted.

Because he was the rightful heir by all accounts and didn't want the crown. You make him say no, which he would, that would have made the whole story end better.
