I am going to trust the guys that wrote Game Night and both Horrible Bosses with the material. Though I know nothing about this nerdy game.
Call them what you wish, but they are good guys and very smart and talented. I art directed their directorial debut and to this day I maintain it was a great script. Just fell a little flat.
Either way ... it is going to print money worldwide and good for them. The rest of the world doesn't seem to get caught up in the politics of it all thankfully.

I thinj The big issue with D&D movies is that D&D is intentionally open to world building so those do you make it a D&D movie and not just a fantasy adventure movie with a D&D logo.

yeah. i do like that they're putting classes on there like paladin, mage, bard, thief, etc.
guessing they aren't messing with halfling, elf, half-elf, dwarf, lawful evil, chaotic good, etc.
as far as canon for ACTUAL D&D stories, something like Dragonlance or Forgotten Realms would be fun, but those would be "deep cuts" to say the least.

Yeah… before this article I just figured it was for comic relief, but now I will probably wait until I can watch it for free.
I would have probably seen it in the theaters if they had not said anything and if I had gotten that impression then they’d have my money, though I would have posted my thoughts on it and possibly steered a few other folks away.
Like I said, wouldn’t have gotten that impression from the trailer alone. The article lost them at least this ticket sale.

i played D&D and magic well into HS and was a football player and ran track.

By the 90s there were plenty of kids from across cliques at my school that played. Jocks, goths, nerds, etc… the only thing that looks different these days is that female players aren’t the super rare thing they were when I was younger.
