Can we have a thread with all those here who said they wouldn't see it or that he was going to 100% f@ck it up

Well this is going to come down because there is still going to be at least 100 more reviews if not more coming in.

It will end up being around 90% which far exceeds what I thought it was gonna be.

If the plot I have read is true, I'm not gonna be happy. Reddit is full of negative reviews about the plot and JJ being JJ.

I agree with you that it is going to come down. Im just saying that, to me, a 90% with over 230 reviews is just as impressive as a 95% with only 80 or so reviews.

I think i predicted 91% in the prediction thread yesterday

It should be well above 90% since there is already a large sample size. It may dip to around 94% to 95%, but it's highly unlikely that it gets much lower than that.

If what I've read is true, it'll be a great fun movie. Which is what I wanted.

Full review from The Guardian, it doesnt have spoilers, but he may go into a little too much detail for some of you, so read with caution

A Spectacular Homecoming

quote:

From the first few minutes, or even the first few frames, JJ Abrams’s exciting, spectacular and seductively innocent Star Wars: The Force Awakens shows itself a movie in the spirit of the original trilogy, which ended with Return of the Jedi in 1983. (This one takes up the story 30 years later.)

quote:

There are very few films which leave me facially exhausted after grinning for 135 minutes, but this is one. And when Han Solo and Chewie come on, I had a feeling in the cinema I haven’t had since I was 16: not knowing whether to burst into tears or into applause.

quote:

The Force Awakens is ridiculous and melodramatic and sentimental of course, but exciting and brimming with energy and its own kind of generosity. What a Christmas present.

yeah, that joke isnt getting old at all

its now 97% through 105 reviews

not as old as the "monuments" joke on the oT and that gets upvotes every time.

I'm so excited about this. The biggest negative I see is people say it's really close to the second best movie of the series. As long as it isn't drawing comparisons of the prequels we are good. I want a new trilogy with new people in the Star Wars universe and that sounds like what we are getting.

I told the kids they can't go because they aren't 13, and they are flipping out about it. I can't wait to surprise them Friday by bringing them.

Really? I read the plot, and I think it will be fine. Sure, people will be a little pissed, but I think the plot is ok.

That is still the pessimist in you talking. It's now at 98%. That would require over 20% of the remaining reviews to be negative. I was the optimist in the prediction thread and said 94%, and that's as low as I can possibly see it going now.

I feel like with these types of movies the critics set the bar pretty low.

The last two Star Treks by Abrams were 95% and 87% positive, and I don't know anyone that considers them great movies.

Abrams is usually able to make great parts to movies (his intro's are fantastic) but I have never enjoyed a movie of his all the way through. MI3 is probably his strongest.

The complaints seem to be it's too similar to A New Hope.

I might be in the minority here, but this is concerning for me. Just making a rehash of A New Hope seems extremely lazy.
