I go into every new Star Treks with a ton of trepidation. After watching the 1st episode that dropped today, it looks promising. Anson Mount's portrayal of Captain Pike is winning me over. He seems to be in command of a ship of Valkyries but that is the sign of times.

The story was a good. I don't want to get into the details until page 2 in order to allow folks to watch the show. Like many of the Star Trek shows some of the familiar tropes were in play.

I hope this lives up to it's potential

I already know how it ends - SPOILER: white heterosexual conservative men who believe in personal responsibility are evil and must be eradicated in a future with billions of races and made up genders

There, I saved us all the time

No. I actually lifted that quote from Q on the ST Voyager Episode where the other Q wanted to commit suicide..

Here's the actual quate:

quote:

Say, is this a ship of the Valkyries? Or have you Human women finally done away with your men altogether?

I was merely referring the there being more women-folk on the bridge than we've seen in the past.

I haven't been too thrilled with the shows they have released.

Lower Decks is amusing at times, and season 2 (with Mariner toning down the Mary Sue quite a bit and Boimler getting some moments to not just be inept has made it way better).

I pretty much just watch clips of Picard that feature Q and don't watch the show.

I started trying to watch Discovery and the start seemed pretty decent but I think CBS forgot that while the Captains have always been in charge and therefor the "main cog", Star Trek was always an ensemble cast.

I'll give Strange New Worlds a try as Pike was one of the few highlights of Discovery, but I don't think I can count on Paramount to NOT frick it up.

In the pilot the first officer was a woman; the network made Roddenbury change it. Spock is pretty much the only character that makes it to TOS from the pilot.

Did you know that Batgirl (Yvonne Craig) was almost the love interest in the pilot? (Vina, who in one of the illusions, appears as an Orion slave girl; Yvonne Craig would end up playing an Orion slave girl [Marta] in "Whom Gods Destroy")

This ST timeline does not exist to me.

I'm treating this timeline like a multiverse. If you are a TNG fan, you might recall when Worf opened up thousands of alternative realities and ended up shifting around.

It's like getting cotton candy when you have been fed black licorice for the past 5 years. Not the best debut, but I totally dig the vibe. Feels more like what Star Trek is supposed to be.

I like Anson Mount as an actor. Hell on Wheels was great. But I also watched the abortion that was season 1 of Picard. Tough call here.

That was actually a nice episode. Even was stand-alone. Nice touch. Felt very Trek.

Canonically it make sense to have so many women now in Starfleet, why because look at TNG and DS9 time, there is a lot more people and men so someone gotta give birth to em.

This was so much better than the crap they have been throwing out there and calling Trek. Pike and Spock are actual likeable characters.

I will say this. In just one episode, they did a better job of capturing what Star Trek is than all of Disovery and Picard. Hopefully they don't frick it up.

This is already the best ST series since DS9. Felt like Trek from start to finish.

Very pleasantly surprised with that premiere. Was not expecting it to be any good.
