**SPOILERS** Finally saw Thor: Love and Thunder

I know there's a very old thread on this, but rather than bump something pages deep I thought I'd weigh in on a part that really bugged me about this movie.
Yes, it has a lot of flaws, but one thing I really hated was the lack of true build-up for Gorr. If you never read the comics but enjoy them, I strongly recommend reading Thor: The God of Thunder, Issues 1-11 (plus the follow-up issue 12).
One thing is that the comic remains very serious (obviously - Thor is hunting a serial killer of gods), and Gorr's acts aren't just off-screen murders. Thor encounters the results of several directly as he searches for and tries to catch Gorr. The entire story arc is well written and is considered one of the best Thor stories.
So the fact that Gorr's actual acts are barely shown (and intermingled with way too much humor) undercut how good a villain he was (a problem of the MCU admittedly). Gorr was basically Thor's Doomsday - a single arc villain that was so popular he keeps coming back in weird and various ways.
Another lost aspect is that Thor really does question if the gods are selfish beings or not. His searches include finding both malicious and fair gods equally butchered in horrifying ways. The fact that Gorr is tied to Thor's past (Thor actually encountered him as a young god, pre-Mjolnir, during the days of the Vikings) and barely survived, and due to Thor's shame from defeat he ends up not telling anyone and shoulders the blame for when Gorr resurfaces.
Anyway, I've always hated when they condense great story arcs and villains, losing a lot of what made them great to begin with.

Yep. They tried to jam two stories together and ended up not really doing justice. It was ok and had some nice action pieces, but too much camp.

I said it in other thread - they wasted Christian Bale for that?
Guns N Roses must have been paid rather well for the soundtrack.
It was bad since they now like to turn Thor into a comedian most of which was cringe.

I saw it this weekend. Armed with low expectations and knowing it was a goof fest, I enjoyed it very much. But the goofs are pretty overwhelming.

Sounds like they had the right storyline and picked the wrong director.

And the fact that Thor is never serious in the whole film, every line is another "witty quip"
The dialogue was exhaustingly groan inducing. The Lady Thor was handled pretty well, and not "woke" or anything. . .but every attempt at grounding the story was frustrated by another dull quip or a knwing glance at the fricking hammer.
frick that movie sucked. It was about as bad as Captain Marvel

I couldn’t stand the screaming goats. Talk about running a joke that wasn’t that funny to begin with into the ground.

Thor is arguably my favorite marvel hero.
Watched L&T two nights ago for the first time. Had debated on watching it even after it can to Disney +. It was below average, such a waste of a potentially great story line. frick Disney

This. It just felt way too try-hard and forced. I almost couldn't take it by the end.

Yeah like running into the fricking planet or whatever. You have the whole scene of Jane telling Thor about her cancer and going to this planet that is devoid of color, and then Taika has to lighten it up with the goats crashing. So freaking weird.

The November Rain drop was dope. Meh movie otherwise.

It was a fun watch but Waititi needs to stay far away from MCU films. The jokes were too much being that there was serious subject matter, and like everyone else said, he completely wasted one of the best actors of our time with Gorr.
The only redeeming part of the movie was the post credit scene of Brett Goldstein as Hercules.

The second half of the movie was decent, where it was somewhat serious. Tittie Wahtiti needs to not direct Marvel movies requiring a little gravitas.

I thought the acting in the first act was pretty poor. The movie got better as it went a long though.

my wife and I liked it, but not as much as the other Marvel movies, particularly the other Thor movies.
She loved the scene with November Rain and the kids.

The movie didnt really do it for me either. It wasn't completely terrible, and I did laugh at some parts, but it could have been so much better than it was.
For the record, I really enjoyed Ragnorak, so I don't mind a bit of humor. What I do mind is that Gorr is one of Thor's top villains. Not to mention they had Christian Bale, who was largely wasted.
If we could have had scenes of Gorr straight up slaughtering some other Gods to really build him up, and take out some of the unnecessary funny quips, I still think this movie had potential.
