Imagine falling into a coma in 1993 and waking up today.

"Hey do they still make those Naked Gun movies?"

"Oh yeah, Drebin is played by Oskar Schindler."

The trailer looked like there is potential for it being good.

honestly it had 21 jump street and the other guys vibes. with a little more unbelievable thrown for slapstick (and source material)

Why do you think it would be bad? Because Liam Neeson is in it? You should be reminded that Leslie Neilson was known for being a serious actor before doing comedy.

Akiva from the Lonely Island co-wrote and directed it. Their comedy is my speed. I don't doubt it'll be funny.

I’m in Hong Kong for the weekend, just left the theater. (Premiered 7/31 here).

There were some really funny moments, and some of the best jokes were (thankfully) left out of the trailers. It won’t be the classic the original was but it got some laughs.

That said, the humor is all over the map. Some of it is the ZAZ style, some of it is clearly Seth McFarlane or Lonely Island. The jokes are also a bit more spread apart in this version so there some gaps where nothing is happening. Some of its also a bit too forced and tries too hard.

All told there are some good laughs but it doesn’t pick a lane as clearly as the ZAZ original. Liam does fine with the deadpan (but he’s no Nielsen), however because he’s bouncing back and forth between joke structures, Frank Drebin Jr is somehow a less defined character than Frank Drebin Sr.

Like Happy Gilmore 2, there’s some CGI driven shenanigans in act 3 that are too dumb, even for a dumb movie.

Watching the previews, Liam seems to be great for the role. It's all about the gags, it's a hard line to hit funny but not brutally insanely over the top to the point of being annoying. See Not Another Teen Movie vs all the dog shite that came after it. Angie Tribeca was pretty funny.

Leslie Nielsen was a serious actor who really found his comedy chops with dead-pan humor in Airplane! Liam Neeson can do the same thing pretty well, so I am going to give the new Naked Gun a chance. If they tried doing this with say, Owen Wilson or Vince Vaughn it wouldn't work. I think it can work with Neeson.

Liam has the chops to do this very well. It will ALL depend on the writing.

Just rewatched Neeson's episode of Derry Girls. Amazing how he can drop in on a comedy with his dead serious characters and make them hilarious.

Just got back from the theater.

It’s pretty hysterical. I was a bit worried that they gave up all the good stuff with the previews/trailers. They didn’t…

There were a couple of scenes where the entire theatre erupted in laughter. The “you shot my brother” and cooking a turkey sequences were a riot.

They did a good job capturing the essence and the vibe of the originals. This new take is a bit raunchier than the originals and I’m here for it.

Liam Neeson was great. He had great on screen chemistry with Pam Anderson.

Definitely worth checking out. Probably not appropriate for young kids.

Just got home from seeing the movie, it was disappointing that I was the only one on the theater………… because this movie was fantastic. I’ve never seen the original naked gun movies, but I loved this one!
A lot of jokes hit good, but some didn’t. But it’s ok because the movie flowed good with it being under 90 minutes.

I will watch the originals this weekend and hope they make sequels. People need to go and see it
