Lisa Marie Presley was there last night, supporting Austin Butler in his win for portraying her father, and in less than 24 hours dies of a heart attack.

That is fricking mental illness

What do you call 5 people ignoring the second half a two sentence paragraph, thus missing the point? Maybe not mental illness, but definitely something negative.

Though it is a poorly written paragraph. The lack of diversity mentioned isn't amongst the nominees. It's referring to the controversy that got the globes removed from TV in 2022 - a lack of diversity in the organization that runs the globes.

The Globes’ lack of diversity and inclusion may have been enough to keep some viewers tuned-out this year.

Are people still surprised by this and the Oscars having low numbers?

I believe people in general are over award shows. Really don’t care all that much to see rich people honor themselves and then lecture everyone else about how virtuous they are.
And meanwhile, the rich “virtuous” people lecturing us never finished high school.

The public is sick of people telling them how awful we are. How awful things are. All while having a nationally televised formal gala.

Lack of diversity is bad. Forced diversity is worse.

Denial that a lack of diversity is also driven by Asian markets. Not acknowledging that racism is more that white against blacks. Asians don’t like anyone. They only tolerate white entertainers they wish to emulate.

Yes, I’m sure the average viewer was having this conversation
“Hey, honey want to watch the Golden Globes?”
“No way, that show isn’t diversified enough for me to want to watch.”

You'd think that an organization composed of foreign press would be diverse almost by definition. (Depending on how you define diverse of course).

It’s really wild that the HFP will keep having this show when it awards people who turn around and lecture and insult them.

Sorry journalism isn’t a black dominated field. Neither is Cricket or Equestrian.

I think the American Public are turning to Pornhub for all their circle-jerk needs nowadays.

It's a favorite pastime of your typical self-hating white liberal. They enjoy being flagellated for their perceived privilege. It really gets their juices flowing in preparation for another year of oppressing minorites. It's an annual ritual in the movie bidness.

Honestly, I don't understand anyone watching awards programs in the 21st century.

Back in my youth, if you didn't watch, you would not be able to know who won until the next day's newspaper ... or maybe two days, if the show went late.

Now, log-on and see the results realtime, without all the commercials and awful speeches.

These shows aren't for the viewers or the fans. They're for the narcissistic actors and 'insiders' who love nothing more than to preen and preach in front of a camera to tell the world just how much better they are than the rest of us lowly unwashed plebs.

They ALLOW us to peer into their world for a night, just so they can remind us all how much they really do care!

Disclaimer: I really don't gaf about the GG, unless Gervais is hosting

But I saw the clips of Carmicheal, because I am a longtime fan.

Sad to see him heading down the Rosie O'Donell route of "Once funny comedian comes out of the closet, and becomes militant and angry"

Hopefully he turns it around.

militant and angry
If Ricky Gervais had come out there and shite on Cruise and Scientology, and the irony of a Hollywood party going on in the hotel where Whitney Houston died, and Will Smith being a poser, and how fricked up the Foreign Press association is in general... It would've been a funnier delivery and everyone would be in here applauding. It's not that Carmichael was militant, he just doesn't have the award show persona. It was like having Steven Wright or Mitch Hedberg host a show. The guy was quietly pacing the stage and delivering these low-key punchlines like he was in a small nightclub.

As he said in his monologue, he was there because he was black. His being gay was a two-fer for the Foreign Press.
